Greenstar 24ri - large temperature drop before re-fire

@Johntheo5 I agree with your comment about WB's reply. As you pointed out some time ago the boiler should shut off at set point +5C. With my current thermostat setting that would be around 77C and that is what I am measuring. Increasing the HW on time doesn't really cure the problem as when...

Greenstar 24ri - large temperature drop before re-fire

For the sake of completeness in this saga, the following is an extract from a recent e-mail from WB. "The only time you would normally have to wait for a large temperature drop before the boiler fires back up is if the primary sensor on the heat exchanger gets excessively hot. For example, you...

Greenstar 24ri - large temperature drop before re-fire

That is what is happening - see earlier posts. The current system is working but obviously not very efficiently. Your advice is sound but I really do not want the hassle of changing the clinder at the moment. Maybe in the Spring next year. I can live with what I have for now.

What you say makes absolute sense, thank you.

Greenstar 24ri - large temperature drop before re-fire

In an ideal world, probably yes, but I don't think that it is worth the cost and upheaval for a relatively small gain. If the installer had made me aware of the issue 3 years ago when the boiler was installed I would have had the cylinder replaced. (I'm guessing that they didn't know about...

Greenstar 24ri - large temperature drop before re-fire

@Johntheo5 Thanks, I didn't know that. I have got to the point of thinking that pursuing this any further is somewhat academic, although it does interest me. I haven't had a reply from WB and will give them a 'prod' this week. The installer tells me that they do sometimes fit a gate valve in the...

Greenstar 24ri - large temperature drop before re-fire

True, but it is running at a fairly high temp. I'm leaving it as it is for the time being. On my boiler just one - common flow and return. Not a chance with my system. Max differential when heating HW only is around 6C so running at mid to high 60s. CH is probably OK but I haven't checked in...

    Yes, yes and usually.

    Tight 13A socket

    Yes it does.

    Tight 13A socket

It is a BG - cheap enough.

    Tight 13A socket

Point taken - new socket it is.

    Tight 13A socket

It is a weatherproof socket, IP66 rated, and inside a greenhouse.

    Tight 13A socket

Thank you all for your comments and suggestions. The problem is definitely not the plugs (various) that I use, it is very much a socket issue and just one of the two. I don't think that I will use the WD40 route - I'll take it apart and if the solution is not obvious then I will replace it.

    Tight 13A socket

That is what I was concerned about - would it act as an insulator on the earth? However, I'll give it a go. Thanks.

    Tight 13A socket

One of the sockets on a 13A 2-gang outdoor unit in my greenhouse is very tight - difficult to get a plug in fully and hard to remove. I think that it's the earth pin that is causing the problem. Is there an easy way to free this up, please or should I just replace it? (Suggestions on the web to...

Greenstar 24ri - large temperature drop before re-fire

Same plot as the last one. Boiler off at ~78C after 38 minutes. Cylinder stat operated at 40-45 minutes - zone valve closed, system off. Plenty of hot water but maybe a bit on the warm side! Might tweak the boiler stat back a little. I'll post again when I hear from WB and / or the installer.

Greenstar 24ri - large temperature drop before re-fire

Don't forget that I increased the set point on the boiler stat last night and that I don't know if the cylinder stat stopped further firng because the cylinder was at temperature. I have turned off the water heating on the time clock so that I can run it when I am up and can monitor what is...

Greenstar 24ri - large temperature drop before re-fire

I thought that it was obvious - up to first peak, off, up to second peak, off again!

Greenstar 24ri - large temperature drop before re-fire

It looks like it. I have e-mailed WB asking them to define the parameters for boiler re-ignition. I have sent them the flow / return plot from a couple of days ago so that they can see what is happening. I'll set the water heating for later tomorrow when I'm up and about and I'll check the ABV...

Greenstar 24ri - large temperature drop before re-fire

Boiler stat setting was increased last night. Hot water heated this morning - unfortunately I was still in the land of nod so I don't know if the cylinder stat operated but looking at the temperature plot I would guess that it probably did. It looks as though I have increased the flow temp by...
