Any electricians in South Wales (RCT)?

Hi, I am not sure if this is the correct forum (mods please move if not) but are there any electricians on this site from South Wales (RCT)? I am gutting some rooms so need someone to rewire it all. I'm looking for somebody honest/reasonable, hence would prefer someone who has a good history on...

How to check footings of old stone house?

I just remembered I took a photo of my neighbour's basement a while back, does it give you any clues? I'd be happy with the room height they've got: https://i.ibb.co/7gW0LkK/IMG-0095-2.jpg" alt="IMG-0095-2

How to check footings of old stone house?

Yep. As mentioned I have seen lots of videos where the walls have been brick, but none where they were stone This is what I was concerned about... What did you end up doing? If I don't have 30cm, can I forgo the insulation and just make do with DPC? My guess is there is just a concrete...

How to check footings of old stone house?

Thanks both, though I'm getting worried now! Should I just leave it? I don't want to uncover problems. This was done at least 10 years ago, a steel beam was added. Front wall (the wall that's underground) has been tanked, tho could either do with being done again, or, as one of my neighbours...

How to check footings of old stone house?

I live in an old semi that has thick stone walls (with 3 x brick on party wall). It has two floors when looking at it from the front and three when looking at it from the rear - the basement is on the same floor as the garden. The basement is on two different levels as they were originally two...

How to check a new Baxi expansion vessel?

Thanks everyone - I checked again today and it was the same pressure at 1.26bar :-) So would you all agree it is 'ok'? If so can we mark theses posts as the solution so that it can help others in future?:

How to check a new Baxi expansion vessel?

The boiler does not need to come off (and I'll probably get a plumber friend to fit it anyway) but that's not what this thread is about - I'm just trying to ascertain whether the expansion vessel is ok and whether I should send it back or not.

How to check a new Baxi expansion vessel?

Thanks Rob... I am not a plumber getting this for a client though (so there will be no come-backs on me) hence I am interested in hearing what people think were they in the same situation as me. So what would you do if you were in my situation? :-)

How to check a new Baxi expansion vessel?

Thanks Madrab. So you're saying I should just get a new one? Even Screwfix says "Delivered by our approved supplier" - so I could end up with an old one from them as well? :/

How to check a new Baxi expansion vessel?

Thanks... checked again and it is 1.26bar. Should I expect 1.26 on Sunday as well? Or would 1.25 be acceptable?

How to check a new Baxi expansion vessel?

So are you saying I should check it again now (4 hours after I pressurised it) and then in 3 days time?

How to check a new Baxi expansion vessel?

The digital pressure checker arrived today so I have pressurised it for another test. Oddly, my electric gauge struggled to get it beyond 1.5 so I stopped it there and it reads as 1.27 on the digital pressure checker. I will check it again on Sunday. Should I allow for a reasonable drop in...

How to check a new Baxi expansion vessel?

Thanks, and yes, the seller said they can send me the return labels if required. I'll pressurise it to 2bar and check after 3 days - if it's no good will send it back and probably just buy a brand new one from Screwfix to save messing about with eBay

How to check a new Baxi expansion vessel?

I did a test for two days but on checking felt like it had gone down, so carried out another test by pressurising it to 1bar and taking photos of the gauge, and then checked two days later. It seemed to have gone down a little bit but was difficult to call. So I have ordered a digital pressure...

How to check a new Baxi expansion vessel?

I messaged them before buying it, they said it was new and had been in storage and that it comes in the Baxi box - which it did, and while there's no way of telling whether it had been opened (no seals on opening slip, even tho the box was sealed with two white plastic strips (but that could...

How to check a new Baxi expansion vessel?

That's a bummer :( This one was £65 while all others are £99 (on eBay - for 'new' ones). They are £146 on Screwfix. If the charge was to hold for a few days could that indicate that it might be 'ok'? I'll probably get a new boiler in a few years time so I'm only really going to need it till then :/

How to check a new Baxi expansion vessel?

Thanks everyone. There was no charge at all (was on zero) so I have charged it up to 1bar. It was manufactured in 2018, so is that expected? Should I wait to see whether it's held for 24 hours, or wait longer? Or should I just return it? Here's the photos of it:

How to check a new Baxi expansion vessel?

I received my new Baxi 248722 expansion expansion vessel today - it was advertised as new, and although it came in a Baxi box and looks new, I noticed that the silver tape holding the two pieces of polystyrene type padding has been cut, so wondered what I should do to check that it is ok. Am...
