    Will any spacer do?

Hi all, quick update job done on one of them! It's not pretty but it's better than it was. Thanks for all the help. (Don't worry I didn't use the all-metal screwdrivers by the way.)

    Will any spacer do?

It is a bit of a puzzle - the house isn't that old (late Victorian). It wasn't a problem before we had the old flooring remove and so new skirting boards installed, and the ex-wife chose some very chunky skirting boards. (Which to be fair, do look good.)

    Will any spacer do?

    Thanks both, good tips!

    Will any spacer do?

OK brilliant, thank you! And is it just a matter of pulling the face plate off, slipping the spacer over it, then re-inserting the screws? Most of the sockets are hidden away so I'm not too bothered about looks, but in one or two places I could replace the whole face plate for looks I guess...

    Will any spacer do?

Hi there, Finally getting around to sorting this out... we had house rewired/electrics replaced a couple of years ago, then skirting boards installed more recently. You can guess what happened... see photo! I think what I need is to install 'spacers' like the below? Am I right in thinking that...

Removing cable clip nails from brickwork of outside wall (Ed.)

Thanks everyone! OK seems like this will require a bit more care than I'd thought, especially the ones high up. I think for now I'll just cut off the most unsightly dangling cables and see if that improves things. Sorry @bernardgreen if my response was a bit rude (I was going for cheeky), I...

Removing cable clip nails from brickwork of outside wall (Ed.)

Probably not, no, but unsolicited advice is such a bugbear of mine (especially when it doesn’t accompany the actual asked-for advice) that I’m happy to make the sacrifice.

Removing cable clip nails from brickwork of outside wall (Ed.)

It’s a fair question but I listened closely to it and can’t hear any electricity moving.

Removing cable clip nails from brickwork of outside wall (Ed.)

Hi all, I'm 99% sure of the answer to this, but I'd like to be sure before I do it! Victorian terraced house, lots of old unused phone, sky, etc cables attached to the outside front wall using cable hooks/clips with nails. It's ok to pull the nails out of the brick and pointing, right? I won't...

    Brick outbuilding --where to start?

The roof is pretty new, couple of years -- the previous one had a giant hole in it so it was replaced when we moved in. It's an angled roof with joists and some kind of fabric on top (I'm not sure of the details sorry). I'm thinking a damp meter might be the thing to do.

    Brick outbuilding --where to start?

Thanks! Is there any downside to just doing one of those injectable damp proof courses... couldn't hurt, right? There's no plaster or anything so I don't have to worry about that. Medium-term plan is to sort of the damp issue and seal it up so that I can put OSB on the walls or something. (It's...

    Brick outbuilding --where to start?

So sorry for the slow reply! Had to wait for some slightly less awful weather to get decent photos. Not totally sure on the damp course, will have to have a proper look when it's not raining. Thanks very much for your comments. The outside/external wall is not too bad actually-- the nothing...

    Brick outbuilding --where to start?

Hi there, Finally getting around to this after moving house in 2021! We've got a single-skin brick outbuilding, with pretty modern roof and doors/windows. But the brick walls and especially the (concrete) floor are in poor condition, so I'm wondering what to do. It's extremely damp in there --...
