Feeding new wires down a Stud Wall

FWL_Engineer, He did say tat I could open the transformer, and site it in a box, that's what I'm doing, He also said that the installation guys have done it the other way as well, hence the quote "It's not a bodge, It's a way round the problem" If I wasn't taking anyones advise, why am I...

Feeding new wires down a Stud Wall

Finally, I've got the answer, I've taken the transformer out of the plug and put it into a standard transformer box, then I can wire it into the lighting circuit as normal. I got a reply from the makers, They said that they didn't do in-line transformers and that I could put a...

Feeding new wires down a Stud Wall

Cheers, I thought it'd be ok but I wanted to double check. Its the appliance that dictates the current, correct? Do you know what a "Toroidal" transformer is, they keep on popping up on searches (aren't they something to do with bells?)

Feeding new wires down a Stud Wall

FWL_Engineer, this is one thing that always confuses me, You state that the 12V dc output is rated at 1A (12W). Is that what the transformer will kick out, or it it the maximum that is can kick out? The one that was supplied is 12V 6W so wouldn't the one you suggest be too powerful and...

Feeding new wires down a Stud Wall

It doesn't specify It says Output 12V 6W on the transformer, i'm assuming that because its for LED's that its DC but Ive e-mailed the makers to see if they do an in-line transformer, but I doubt they'll be any help. They dont like it when you start fiddling around with their products!

Feeding new wires down a Stud Wall

I have wired up lights etc. in several rooms with help from a very experienced friend, and wiring these lights would be easy if it wasn't for two factors - 1. I didnt want to knock out any more holes in walls 2. The so**ing lights can with a 3 pin transformer and not an in line one...

Feeding new wires down a Stud Wall

Quick question, Can I use a double backbox, with two separate switch plates attached, a light switch, and a fused switch. All I have to do then is make the existing hole in the wall bigger. The light switch will be fed from the lighting circuit, and the separate fused switch from the...

Feeding new wires down a Stud Wall

I am using them for decorative use, not as a main lighting source. They dont emit enough light to be used on there own, they just look nice.

Feeding new wires down a Stud Wall

The transformer came with the lights from micromark, they are LED lights, very low voltage, suitable for exterior decking, you can plug up to 18 of these lights on one tranformer, I'm only using 6 here are the details

Feeding new wires down a Stud Wall

OK, confused, I still need to plug the transormer into a 3 pin socket, its one of these block transforer jobs, so your saying that I can wire the socket to a Ring main, and use a light switch to operate it, correct??? Maybe I got the terminology wrong, the switch plate I want to use has two...
