I'm putting down some new oak floorboards as a suspended floor. Do they need treating on the underside?

I have a open living dining that I want to lay real oak 20mm thick, 200mm wide floor boards. There tung and grove and not engineered. The dinning room has a very dry concrete floor and the living room is suspended. Is it possible to span both rooms with them being different based? It's easy...
