Fitting safety gate to nice oak staircase

Hi, Thanks. The pressure ones have a bar across the bottom which is a potential trip hazard in my view and I seem to recall my wife spoke to one of the companies and they don't really recommend them for staircases/room dividers. I'd always be concerned my son, who is very strong, would be...

Fitting safety gate to nice oak staircase

Hi, I need to fix a child safety gate to a nice oak staircase. The thing is, I don't really want to drill into the staircase so I'm wondering if anyone can think of a way I can do this? I'm thinking if there was some kind of bracket or other mechanism I could use to attached a piece of wood...

Sewage smell from under utility cupboards

Right, progress - of sorts. I took the vent off and had a feel around behind. Two things: i) I managed to easily get the durgo off, had a feel on the bottom and definitely couldn't feel anything like the "push fit" fixing on the bottom of this...

Sewage smell from under utility cupboards

I think access might be a bit of an issue - as you can see the boiler is there and also some wooden posts seem to be in just behind the plasterboard. How easy is it to extend a soil pipe? How do you join up the bits? Thanks Paul

Sewage smell from under utility cupboards

Thanks very much. I did start looking at Durgos so maybe this is what I need to do. In terms of routing it to the loft I believe directly above it is a water tank, could this part of the soil pipe be extended in an angled way to bring into airing cupboard more as above the airing cupboard is...

Sewage smell from under utility cupboards

Thanks for the response. The property maintenance guy was someone we found. It isn't NHBC and the builder has wound his company up so no recourse to him. Directly above that vented area is the loft but I have a feeling a tank in the loft may obstruct, would need to check. It isn't easily...

Any ideas on the problem ? I'm keen to avoid calling out a plumber and getting ripped off. Thanks.

Sewage smell from under utility cupboards

Hi, The smell is really getting to us now, and bit worried about our little boy breathing in whatever it is. Finally got some photos. Below is a view of the vent in the airing cupboard (the back of the airing cupboard is the wall of a shower in an en-suite), behind which I believe the...

Sewage smell from under utility cupboards

Sorry, been a long week - had intended to! I took some photos of the airing cupboard vent but not of behind the washing machine. Behind the airing cupboard vent is some pipework that I believe is the back of our shower (controller etc.) and also that would then probably be the same space that...

Sewage smell from under utility cupboards

Looks like this: http://www.screwfix.com/prods/16105/Heating-Cooling/Ducting/Manrose-Rectangle-White-229mm-Louvre-Vent;jsessionid=5TPKHSQIJXGMGCSTHZOCFGA?ts=53248 Has some wood supporting it off the plaster and some copper pipes going in behind the vent. I need to take it off to see what...

Sewage smell from under utility cupboards

Thanks, will upload a photo this evening. I'm guessing you are wondering if the water in any trap is flowing back into the washing machine so the smell from the drain is coming up that way? It seems to be coming from the waste pipe rather than the wachine machine though. No visible leaks.
