Damp walls, failed damp course - quick fix needed

Not entirely sure but there's holes been drilled on the outside of the wall and some kind of mortar used on the walls on the inside.

Damp walls, failed damp course - quick fix needed

Hi, Prior moving into my house a damp course was installed, evidently by cowboys, who have been back but said I needed to coat in a vinegar type solution and something similar to PVA. I did all this and having wallpapered there's a patch showing. Interestingly the damp co also did the survey...

    Aquatronic 2 shower too hot

My mum's electric shower seems to only get hot when the immersion heater has been on, which I'm sure can't be right? And even when you do get hot water it fluctuates from scalding to cold. Any clues what's happening with it.

Heating is either on or off

Did I at any time state that I wanted a freebie from a heating engineer? No. Perhaps I should in future state during any proposed transaction/purchase that I intend to pay just in case I come across as a freeloader.

Heating is either on or off

Cheers Softus and Dangermouse. I'll contact Glowworm. I inherited the boiler with the house, so I've no idea who serviced it last or installed it. Not very helpful Agile; I think asking a someone to "come and take a look" is not an unreasonable request.

Heating is either on or off

Hi, my radiators have always been too hot to touch. I can turn the thermostat down but it makes no difference. The boiler is a Glowworm Compact 75p, with a Horstmann Centaur Plus C17 timer unit. The boiler does not have an inbuilt thermostat, instead there's a Sunvic (Honeywell style) in the...

    Intermediate switch tripping out

That's me busy over the weekend then!! Not sure where the switch was for the outside light, I kind of assumed it worked off the kitchen one. I guess it could have been taken out at some point, but the problem is that whoever has had the house previously didn't believe in doing a good job on...

    Intermediate switch tripping out

Borrowing a meter at the weekend :) . Two sheaths contain earth and red, the other two are black/dark blue. One each of the coloured cables used to go straight to the outside light, and an earth was spliced to the existing one/s. I thought that by cutting the three cables to the outside...

    Intermediate switch tripping out

Outside light has long gone, it never worked but that could have been due to the bulb. It was an ugly thing and went when I got a new back door and frame fitted. The cables to the external were separate from the internal, though running side by side for a bit. n earth cable for the external had...

    Intermediate switch tripping out

Discounting earth cables; four cables came/come down the wall – hidden in plaster – and two went straight out through the wall to the external light, the other two went to a light switch. When a joiner disconnected the external light it was then that the kitchen lights went out until he capped...

    Intermediate switch tripping out

Apart from earth, there's four wires coming down the wall; two red, two black. Originally two went to the existing light switch, two to the external light. When the external light was disconnected - by a joiner, so don't know if he did cock anything up - that's when the internal lights stopped...

    Intermediate switch tripping out

I've taken out an external light - not sure if it ever worked - but it had three wires (red, black, earth) going to it from a kitchen light switch. (I'm assuming that when the kitchen light was turned on the outside light used to come on as well.) The three wires have been snipped short and now...
