    Furniture Joint

Had a dining chair fail on normal use. Less than 2 years old. I can't get my head round this joint (photos of both parts). How did the staples get there. What do they do? Was it bound to fail? Greatful for advice.

Problems with a shared return on a new installation

I had a similar issue to this resulting in reverse circulation to radiators when only hot water was on. Turned out to to be the bypass valve (in my case a gate valve) in the wrong position with respect to the heating return creating a path for flow through radiators.

Replacing a WC fan. Run on timer does not operate.

Never worked properly. Recent(ish) house move. And I actually like the way it currently operates but understand that a timer is required in such areas. Should the fan pull cord neon go out when the light switch is turned off?

Replacing a WC fan. Run on timer does not operate.

I am planning to replace a fan in a small WC with no window as part of a redecoration. Having removed the cover to see what’s what, I see that it is meant to have a run on timer but it does not operate like this (It is an old Loovent Airflow). The fan is operated by the light switch and has a 2...

    Matching skirting/architrave to doors

I have new doors fitted. http://www.jbkind.com/prod_name/Veneered-Moulded-Flush-Turmeric-Oak.aspx Pine skirting and architrave also installed. Where would you start to match the doors? Have tried the ronseal shades on their own or mixed coats. Light oak and beech are too yellow. Medium oak...

Honeywell CM 927/907 and TPI Control - Question?

Honeywell CM 927/907 and TPI Control - Question?

Yes, 2 zones. All rads have TRVs (set to max in rooms with the stats). I suppose my worry was the constant cycling with 2 stats regularly calling as outlined in the original post. But then again, they do his for a reason (energy saving??) ...and yes, valves switch off boiler!

Honeywell CM 927/907 and TPI Control - Question?

I have read with interest about the TPI control on my Honeywell stats and note their energy saving features. I have a wireless CM927 upstairs and a wired CM907 downstairs. How does it work having 2 of them - will the boiler potentially be cycling 2 x 6 = 12 times an hour! Does it matter...

    Professional Double Glazing Installation

We've just had salesman round to provide a quote (local company with good reputation). He made a big thing about their practice of measuring the window "bigger" so that they are installed "into" the brickwork. This was made out to be their unique selling point. Is it unique? Do...

    New House (advice on system)

Hoping move house if all goes through. It has a gravity HW system with pumped open vented CH (large and small tank in the loft). Potterton Profile boiler - 7 years old. RAVI valve adjacent to cylinder. Never had gravity HW. Is it worth (i.e. cost effective) to upgrade to fully pumped system?

Apollo fanfare pilot out - can't relight

Some more info: pilot will not light at all, despite multiple, multiple actuations of the ignitor button.

Apollo fanfare pilot out - can't relight

Hi all, Wife turned gas valve adjacent to boiler instead of isolator valve for our outside tap! When no hot water, noticed that pilot light was out and can't get it to relight following the instructions given. i.e. depress gas valve operating button and operating ignitor button. Electricity...

    Shower won't run cold

We had a similar problem - and it was exactly as described by SUPERPLUMBER. The contol was hard round to cold but I took the cover off and the spindle still had some way to go. Just a case of "re-aligninment"

    Motorised valve passing?

Thanks all. As I said - total layman but delighted with help and armed with useful information to inform the next lucky contractor that I get out to look at this (5th time of asking) - anyone know of anyone good in Aberdeen area??????

    Motorised valve passing?

Would an automatic bypass be a solution/compromise. Boiler couldn't cope with manual bypass closed with just HW on.

    Motorised valve passing?

I cannot see why the inaccessible parts of the system are anything other than the flow pipe with microbore feeds to radiators, coming back as the return with the microbore returns from the radiators. What other configuration would lead to the problems? The cylinder is directly above the boiler...
