    Help required with 2G1W lightswitch

Just checked the wires...you are right that they are situated in pairs. Unfortunately, the 2 cables are not marked...so I just have 2 brown, 2 blue and 2 earth. How can I tell which of the blues is the live and which is the neutral? Will it do any harm to just try a combination? I assume...

Thanks for your help and patience! There is a grey from a 3 core - but this is terminated in a chock block with the neutrals - it has a blue sheath. So, are you suggesting that I need to try moving the brown cables from L2 to L3? I thought these were the same? Sorry - don't have a...

Non woven lining paper - What is the thickest?

Really? Is this non-woven? I have only seen traditional 1700 lining paper in the stores...not a non-woven. Can you point me to a store that sells this online?

Non woven lining paper - What is the thickest?

I'm going to be using lining paper in a very old house and then emulsion on top of that. I prefer non-woven based on past experience and my own abilities as a paper-hanger  What is the thickest non-woven I can get? I've found something which claims to be comparable to 1400 grade...

Have you any experience of Homeguard Wallcoatings?

Agreed, but just wanted to highlight that for most traditional construction buildings (solid walls, lime pointing, possibly no DPC)....these types of coatings or even masonry paint are a seriously bad idea. We had a damp problem in one of our barns...the previous owner had coated the clay...

Pointer needed on flint rendering walls

Speaking as the owner of a very large flint wall (Listed GII), we had to rebuild a section which was demolished by a tree. There are two main methods of constructing a flint wall: 1. The entire wall is constructed using flint rubble (this relies upon timber shuttering being constructed...

Have you any experience of Homeguard Wallcoatings?

Aside from the suggestion that there are other similar products available on the marketplace, noone seems to be commenting on the fact that the OP wanted to apply this to a barn. Assuming this was of traditional construction, then applying a non-breathable coating like this (or even masonry...

    Shower tray support

The problem is that the tray is an unusual shape and part of a 'walk-in' shower enclosure...so it's not possible to change for a resin tray (although I have now decided that the remaining bathrooms will be fitted with resin or stone trays.) I thinking of leaving the jack under the tray...

    Shower tray support

We have a problematic plastic shower tray which keeps leaking. Basically, the problem is that there is insufficient support and some of the users are heavy (18st), causing the tray to flex at the joint with the wall and eventually result in leaking. Any suggestions most welcome - we've tried...
