    Having a lot of problems with this! I have tried every configuration on the switch in my original diagram & nothing (might be a dodgy switch?) I think i'm right in saying that during at least one point changing the wiring, the lights should have come on, even if I couldnt switch off! BUT...

    I see what you mean the twin & earth (blue, brown & earth) are from light fittings. I have copied the three core & earth (with black, grey brown & earth), and it's still no good!

    Sorry a bit more info, the FCU cable goes under the floor and is protected up the opposite wall by steel channelling the spurred socket goes under the floor and is protected & buried in the wall. tks

    Thanks for all the quick responses! It is in fact a ring circuit in a utility room, the fused spur (FCU?) is for a small tv on the wall and the extra higher-up spurred socket is for an iron or such like.. with the lower sockets for a washing machine / dryer etc Thanks for the help
