Twin brown and earth - can one core be marked blue for neutral?

I was wondering what was acceptable for cable marking - thought about brown tape with a cable tie!

Twin brown and earth - can one core be marked blue for neutral?

Thanks all for your input. The cables in question are 1.5mm so what I have done is purchase some blue sleeve which I have added to one of the brown cores in such a manner (i.e. the sleeve is the same length as the core) that unless you look closely (or notice that one core is thicker than the...

Twin brown and earth - can one core be marked blue for neutral?

Thanks for the replies. One of the cables (they are 1.5mm) feeds from a switched spur to the extractor fan so this can be protected by a 3A fuse which I understand is acceptable. My original intention was that the external socket (which has two of the 1.5mm brown/brown cables feeding into/out...

Twin brown and earth - can one core be marked blue for neutral?

I'm currently building an extension (done under building regs including the electrical) and I've inadvertently run a couple of twin and earth cables each with two brown cores. One to an extractor fan and one to an outside socket. I've no idea where this drum came from as I've never knowingly...

    Greenstar 25i erp pressure gauge

Thanks John. At the moment I don't own the property (am looking to purchase) but I noticed the problem when viewing. I'm speaking with the estate agent today and will raise it as an issue that needs to be addressed.

    Greenstar 25i erp pressure gauge

But surely, if there is 0 pressure then the boiler wouldn't work (hot water and heating both function)

    Greenstar 25i erp pressure gauge

Thanks for that - looks like a new gauge is required!

    Greenstar 25i erp pressure gauge

Very simple question regarding the water pressure gauge on a Greenstar i25 erp boiler. I went to view a property for sale today and noticed that the pressure gauge was showing 0. The boiler itself was working (heating and hot water) but can someone please confirm my thoughts which are that the...

    Mixer tap screw handle removal

Based on another set of taps that I have (I think they are both Sottini), the cap unscrews. On the other set, when I replaced the cartridge a few years ago I applied grease to the thread and I was able (today) to unscrew the cap. It's a really poor design meaning (unless there is a trick I don't...

    Mixer tap screw handle removal

I need to replace the cartridge on a mixer tap but need to unscrew the small metal cap at the top of the handle to get to the grub screw. The cap won't move under hand pressure and there is very little metal to grip so does anyone have a trick to removing these without breaking the ceramic?

    Meter Tail Clamps

Thanks sparkymarka - I saw singles but couldn't find any doubles!!!

    Meter Tail Clamps

No not the stuffing gland, I mean clamps to tidy/hold the tails on the wooden back board. I was told before that although these were not an absolute requirement, it was best practise. The photo below is not exactly what I'm after (these obviously wouldn't affix to a backboard) but hopefully is...

    Meter Tail Clamps

Really simple question this one! I'm installing a new consumer unit (under building control) and need a couple of clamps for the tails but can't seem to find them anywhere (looked on eBay, Toolstation, CEF, TLC.). Can someone please point me in the right direction as I would think these must be...

32mm incoming mains supply - reduce to 22mm or 15mm

Thanks Madrab - very interesting/useful information. It's only a small/medium sized 3 bedroom house (which will be rented out) so I don't think it's unreasonable for people to stagger their water demand. I will heed the advice and use 22mm up to the point where it need to split off.

32mm incoming mains supply - reduce to 22mm or 15mm

Thanks both. There are two bathrooms and three toilets. Rightly or wrongly, I've already plumbed the bathrooms/toilets in 15mm but haven't completed the run from the boiler to the first bathroom (the second bathroom tees off from the first) or kitchen. I can therefore run in 22mm up to the...

32mm incoming mains supply - reduce to 22mm or 15mm

I have a new 32mm incoming water supply which terminates directly below where my new boiler will be located. My thoughts are that I should reduce from 32mm down to 22mm and then where I tee off for the boiler, I use a reducing tee to provide a 15mm feed for the boiler and another 15mm feed for...

GoSystem QP8088H Auto Power or QP8937H Auto Swirl?

I've decided to buy myself a new torch and need it for both general plumbing work (I am not a plumber but am refurbishing a house and do my own pipework) and I have just got into the world of stationary engines so I want to be able to undertake brazing work on those. I think the GoSystem QP8088H...

    Light Fitting Resonance!

I understand what you are saying but the "buzz" moves from lamp holder to lamp holder and disappears if all lamps are removed. It's also much quieter than a "normal" arcing sound.
