Thanks for the reply mate, all the wiring is above the ceiling so can't see it. Fan is between two downlighters and the switch is outside the room. If I change the fan to one with a timer how would I wire it with just the twin and earth? Cheers.

Not sure, but don't think so. I'm sure it was the same set up as the new one. just the L and N terminal blocks.

Trying to replace a bathroom fan. The cable is just twin and earth, and the new fan (http://www.wickes.co.uk/Fans/Extractor-Fan/invt/199796) just has a terminal block for L and N. Easy? You'd think so! It runs, but doesn't switch off. WHAT'S GOING ON!!!!
