More likely the resetable fuse! Glad it's working LindiLou!

Yeah, I know what a non-resettable thermal fuse is too!

Transit bolts left in Bosch washing machine-now dead! Help!

Having said all that of course, should a "non-resettable thermal fuse" have blown in the motor, it is unlikely to have switched everything off with it, so you may have to look deeper. The controller board is likely to be in the top of the machine, perhaps in a box. Fuses may be mounted on a...

Transit bolts left in Bosch washing machine-now dead! Help!

I included a link which proves you to be completely wrong. The proof is in the pudding as they say, and there you see a company marketing resettable thermal fuses. Anyone who believes that everything stated on Wikipedia is correct probably believes in fairies too! Whether a...

    Oh yes they are! http://www.devale.com/thermal-fuse/resettable-thermal-fuses.html

Transit bolts left in Bosch washing machine-now dead! Help!

There'll be another one somewhere, even if it's just a thermal fuse in the motor. Have a look for a resettable thermal fuse. It's almost inconceivable that there isn't some form of over-current device in the motor controller circuitry somewhere.

Do you mean the plughead fuse or one within the machine?

    Yeah, I know!

Health and safety - Roof work

Almost - some people are better-off working under supervision and having risks assessed for them! Here you go: http://www.hse.gov.uk/pubns/indg163.pdf

Indeed they do, but most risk assessments are done by the people who do the job, or the foreman etc.

Health and safety - Roof work

Jobs need to be assessed for risk before they are done. If erecting scaffolding was more hazardous than nipping up on a ladder to replace a single tile just above the guttering, for example, an employer or employee could be prosecuted for taking unnecessary risks, particularly if something went...

Health and safety - Roof work

I expect that it will be subject to a risk-assessment for each job. The act of erecting scaffolding is not without risk, and may be more risky than going up on a ladder to replace one tile, for example, so I would be surprised if it was mandatory. If there were a lot of tiles to replace, it...

    RCCBO's and computers

Now here's a thought... If these circuits are radials, then things could get nasty in event of a single fault condition: if the earth were to fail at the supply end, then all the computer cases, assuming they were metal, would come up to mains potential, with the sum of their leakage currents...

    RCCBO's and computers

Leakage current will likely be constant. There are three ways around this problem: 1. Use a 100mA or 200mA RCCBO if you can get them. 2. Use isolating transformers 3. Connect fewer computers

Replacing a rusty old garage CU

Interesting comments 1john. FYI, and just out of interest, I connected an 8k resistor from live to earth via a fast reed relay, and connected a dual-channel oscilloscope across the resistor. The second oscilloscope channel was connected directly across the mains. (Yes, it's got a 500V RMS...

    In-line RCD for a shower

Oh dear, well I'd better leave it as it is and save up my pennies to pay for a part pee person, or for some expensive local authority inspection. In the mean time, shall my family and I risk electrocution to keep the legislators happy? No! We're never going to agree on this one...

It wouldn't look out of place in my Nan's flat, next to the warden call pull-cord, door intercom/unlocker and immersion heater switch!
