    Lining Paper onto plasterboard

Thanks Robbie. When you say "skim across" would Polycell Smooth Over be suitable for doing this? Also, after emulsioning would the wall require sizing with paste before hanging the lining paper?

    Lining Paper onto plasterboard

I am thinking of putting up lining paper in my living room then painting over it. Two of the walls are plasterboard and in a lot of places the paint has flaked off the plasterboard after stripping the previous paper. I'd guess the depth is under 1/2mm but is this likely to show through the...

    Suitable bathroom door vent?

I have fitted a Vent Axia ACM100 fan in the loft to extract from the bathroom (10 cubic metres). I now need to fit a vent in the bathroom door. Will this vent be suitable for the above or is there a minimum requirement for the size of vent...

    Output of extractor fan....

Thanks comms, I plan to go through a tile vent with the pipe and to drain the trap through the soffit. I've just been up the loft and done some measurements. From the loft floor to the underside of the roof is around 2' 6" at the position I plan to exit the bathroom ceiling. The joists are...

    Output of extractor fan....

Can anyone answer rlc's question above - "As these are not suitable for flexible and I right thinking typically you go as follows: flexible output from fan -> combination or horizontal / veritcal ridgid depending on run -> condensation trap fitted in vertical position-> ridgid and out...

Sealing hot water tank lid to tank?

namsag, fitting the cold feed lid looks to have solved the problem - the insulation is now dry. I don't know if the tank was or was not causing the condensation in the loft before adding the cold feed lid/enclosing the wbp ply lid/insulating the tank, but it must have been losing a hell of a...

Will soffit vents solve condensation problem?

Hi Kev, one or two of the plumbers will be pleased to know that I no longer intend sealing the lid to the tank. After fitting a lid to the cold water feeder part of the tank (this lid was missing, got my neighbours old one) there is no moisture leakage from the tank - the insulation I covered...

Sealing hot water tank lid to tank?

Thanks Kev, I've emailed Elson and await their advice. namsag, the aluminium lid you refer to was missing but I've managed to get my neighbours old one and fitted it. There is still a slight gap - it does not cover my feeder tank completely. I'll check later today to see if that's done the trick.

Sealing hot water tank lid to tank?

This tank is intended for hot water. It's an "ELSON INDIRECT DOUBLE FEED HOT WATER TANK".

Sealing hot water tank lid to tank?

Many thanks for your answer namsag. The tank in my loft is in fact a HOT water tank. As far as I'm aware there is no problem with the tank. The problem is that moisture is escaping from the tank and causing condensation in the loft. I need to seal the lid to stop the leakage. The tank will not...

Sealing hot water tank lid to tank?

Sorry mate, you've lost me. I'm only going on the recommendation of my brother in law who's been a self-employed plumber for years and has seen the existing system in my house.

Sealing hot water tank lid to tank?

The condensation was probably due to the fact the lid was open at two ends and no insulation on the tank :? . I intend getting a combi boiler fitted in the next 6 months - in the event access was needed to the ballcock in the next 6 months I would just have to reseal it.

Sealing hot water tank lid to tank?

I've had some problems with condensation in my loft. Seems like the hot water tank in the loft is the culprit. I've covered a WBP ply lid in thick plastic (the stuff you use for stopping weeds coming up) and insulated the tank with space blanket and loft insulation. But when the lid sits on the...

Will soffit vents solve condensation problem?

It is definitely a hot water tank. It has a label with the name of the tank on the side - can't remember it off hand but I'll check during the week. The next door neighbour had the same set-up. I'll ask the plumbing forum about the sealing. Cheers.

Will soffit vents solve condensation problem?

Thanks Kev. When you say expansion vessell what do you mean? There is an overflow pipe from the tank to outside the house so presumably this would prevent the tank being fully sealed.

Will soffit vents solve condensation problem?

John, can you suggest a suitable sealant/gel/seal to create an airtight bond between the hot water tank and lid. I enclosed the open ends of existing WBP ply lid and covered it with thick black polythene sheet (the stuff you use for preventing weeds popping up), then wrapped the tank and covered...

Will soffit vents solve condensation problem?

Fitted the soffit vents this morning - 9 at front, 9 at rear, 3 feet between centres. Was able to put my hand through the vent holes and feel the roof boards protruding out past house wall. The boards at the front of the house were fine (above bedroom and living room). However, at the rear...

Will soffit vents solve condensation problem?

It's just the hot water tank in the loft and gas boiler in the kitchen - no coal stove or hot water cylinder. Many thanks for your help and advice John.
