    Fireplace Sealants

Hi Robbie, I'm well aware of the conditions of a tenancy, however the property is rented from a close friend of mine and it wouldn't be an issue making small alterations. Can you suggest anything that might help? Chris.

    Fireplace Sealants

Hello there! I've just moved into a rented property, and in our lounge there is a modern "hole in the wall" gas fireplace attached where the original Victorian one would have been, against the chimney breast. It is of the "living flame" type, and I believe it has an open flue up the...

    BOILER CORVEC 45 OF

Without meaning to lower the tone of this forum, would it be possible to see a picture of the boiler and hot water tank? Just out of sheer interest, it sounds like an odd design :) Cheers, Chris.

    Boiler Problems

Wow, and I thought my previous installation was bodged! It looks like a rather retro boiler. Ours was sealed to the wall and flue with expanding foam :)

Heatline Capriz 25 - Big enough?

Mine is all working now, I ended up gaffering the flexi pipe up a bit so it was less of a U-bend and lo and behold the condensate trap drains properly! However, it does make quite a loud rattling. It seems to be the case, I can fix it by giving it a big hug (awwwh) and squeezing the sides...

    Vaillant vs. Baxi

Hi again all, Thanks to my recent bad experiences with central heating, my whole family seems to think I've got a better clue than most about boilers and such...Little do they know about the diynot forum..... Anyway, my parents have decided it's time to switch their fully pumped Glow worm...

Heatline Capriz 25 - Big enough?

Ok guys, you're going to laugh at this one! Boiler was installed today by a Corgi engineer, all the pipework looks very neat and seems to have been done well. Had it on for about 8 hours on a new Iflo RF2 wireless thermostat thing set to 20 degrees with no problems what so ever! Lovely hot...

Heatline Capriz 25 - Big enough?

I've checked, and the installer has a current Corgi licence. He told me that he usually works for himself, but this time he's employed by the landlord, and as such will only do what the landlord requests (obviously within reason - it'll all be safe!). I used to have an ancient Potterton...

Heatline Capriz 25 - Big enough?

Hi all, My plumbing saga continues (see other topic). My landlord just brough round his "cheap combi" that he promised, and it's a brand new boxed thing called a Heatline Capriz 25. Any good? I was a little disappointed to see it wasn't an A-rated machine, but it looks solid enough...

    Central Heating Programmer - Electrics

I'm just a household too, and my 2 bed flat has an ancient gravity system. It seems very inefficient to not be able to properly divert the boilers hot flow to where it's needed, and to add insult to injury not be able to accurately control the temperature of rads or tank via thermostats...

Heating System Problems - Potterton Profile - Rads not hot

Tony, Thanks for the information, interesting to read. The original plumber can't start the job until the end of next week at a push, so the landlord has rang his other plumber mate... He came and did a site survey today, and decided it'd be best putting a condensing combi in instead of...

Heating System Problems - Potterton Profile - Rads not hot

Thanks for that Tony, interesting to hear. I think either way the landlord isn't going to be particularly happy! As the tenant, all I want is a decent heating system that doesn't cost me the earth to run. Does anyone know if my boiler, a Potterton Profile (either 40e or 50e) is a reasonably...

Heating System Problems - Potterton Profile - Rads not hot

Right, Just had the plumber who my landlord contracted out to do the work come and have a look. He was a nice fella with all the relevant accreditations. He had a more in depth poke round at the system and discovered the boiler was mounted on two metal bars hanging off the wall, and that...

Heating System Problems - Potterton Profile - Rads not hot

No? The bloke from British Gas seemed to think that converting to a sealed system would result in much greater pressure going to the downstairs rads, squeezing it through the thinner pipes. It'll be a bit of a big job to change the thin pipes to fat ones I think...But yeah, I might hold back...

Heating System Problems - Potterton Profile - Rads not hot

Hi all, I'm new here, and after browsing the forum a little it seems there's a whole lot of expertise here! I'm having a bit of a central heating nightmare at the moment, first I'll describe the system a little.... I live in a 2 bed duplex (2 floors) flat, which is a strange design...
