Expansion vessel stuffed, can I fit an 'external'(?) one?

I have installed the expansion vessel today - (only a couple of leaks - now cured :) ) All seems to be well - It took me all day though! (stop sniggering all you plumbers out there !) I used a PRV for the sake of a few quid thought it was worth it. Thanks to everyone for their...

How to fit an external expansion vessel ?

I tend to agree with you - the likely hood of the existing PRV in the system being over pressurised and isolated "accidently" is pretty unlikely , but like I say, for the sake a few extra squids i will fit one. i will not fit an isolating valve, can't see much point other than for replacing...

How to fit an external expansion vessel ?

Thanks Gavinda. The opinion regarding PRV seems to be divided so for the sake of an extra £10-15 I think i will fit one. I will tee into the external outlet of the existing PRV If luck is on my side i will be able to mount it very close to existing pipe work and thus should not be too...

How to fit an external expansion vessel ?

Firstly - Thanks to all for the advice I am going to fit 12l external to the 22mm return with PVR (I will buy the vessel"kit" ), I will not use the filling loop. Final question (I wish!:)) - Can I mount the vessel upside down? ie valves at the bottom. This would make the pipe work much...

How to fit an external expansion vessel ?

Hi This lively debate is very "interesting" but I am pretty sure my boiler is not an "instant" It is the 105e CGN 4707508. so my understanding to date from these posts is: 1) It is possible to fit an XEV - (return side) 2) Secondary PRV would be a good idea but is only...

Expansion vessel stuffed, can I fit an 'external'(?) one?

Thanks Tony - I now understand, This assumes that the boiler has been isolated and at the same time the filling valve is opened or leaks and that the filling loop is connected ? Simple scenario yes but likely ....um Better to be safe than sorry though Thanks BF

Expansion vessel stuffed, can I fit an 'external'(?) one?

Hi Tony I am not asking for training, I am just looking for advice, but if you don't have the answers then that' fine. I am a fully qualified mechanical engineer so do understand a little about fluid dynamics, and so my logic is that if the boiler is isolated then how can it build up 3bar...

Expansion vessel stuffed, can I fit an 'external'(?) one?

Hi Tony Thanks for the prompt response, So if i understand correctly, the PRV on the boiler could get isolated if the the boiler valves are turned off. but how would the pressure then build up in the EXV to warrant (and crack) a seperate PRV ? The tool operated isolation valve is a...

Expansion vessel stuffed, can I fit an 'external'(?) one?

my combi boiler expansion vessel is also shot so i want to fit an external one . The boiler has Pressure Relief Valve, filling loop and gauge so i'm assuming i can just plumb a new vessel in to the CH return without having to use another PRV, gauge and filling loop? Do i need any seperate...
