    Water softener advice, please…

Five adults currently. However my son and his g/f are due to be moving out within the next three to four months (they’re looking for a new place). So will then essentially be me, my wife, and our 23-year old daughter.

    Water softener advice, please…

That’s interesting - thanks for the feedback! I went onto their website to check pricing, but they want me to contact they for a quote, etc. Could one of you give me a ballpark figure in terms of upfront cost for the unit, and then ongoing costs for the salt? Thanks! Lastly - I take it there...

    Water softener advice, please…

So I used to live in London - the water there wasn’t particularly soft, but it was reasonably fine. I moved out to Reading about five years ago and… blow me! The water here is super hard. We’ve been through a couple of kettles already - even after using the descaling solutions. And the shower...

    Recommendations for a new conservatory

Thanks both for the reply. I'm surprised, but also intrigued! Can you expand more on why a conservatory would knock the value off of a house? Especially if it was done well, and provides extra space? What are the downsides? I assumed that, as this was a new build, adding a full-blown extension...

    Recommendations for a new conservatory

Hey all, At the beginning of 2020 I moved into a new build property in Reading. It's generally spacious enough, but we've always thought that we could maybe do with just a little extra space - especially when family visit and stay for some weekends, etc. We're thinking a good option will be...

Where can I buy these threshold fasteners?

Hey all, I have tiled flooring in my kitchen area, and laminate flooring in my dining room. There's no door between these areas - simply a 4ft long threshold which separates the two, and is secured with five fasteners/clips. This was fitted around 8 years ago when we had the kitchen...

New Heated Towel Rail blows fuse...

Story of my life, mate! Yeah that's what it sounded like to me. But I've given up on it now. I didn't check the element before I fitted it, and am no longer inclined to unfortunately  I've been well and truly beaten into submission by a heated towel rail, and have disconnected it...

New Heated Towel Rail blows fuse...

Heh - I've only been using 13amp fuses - so not sure where the 3 came from. Anyhow! I'm giving up. Calling in the professionals next week. (if any of you guys are near north west London and fancy a job, PM me). I got the replacement this morning. Connected everything up, and this time...

New Heated Towel Rail blows fuse...

Quick update for all you helpful people. The eBay seller has popped a replacement heating element/flex assembly in the post to me. I'm really hoping it'll pitch up tomorrow so I can get this done at the weekend. If not, it'll be Monday or so. I'll let you all know what happens  R.

New Heated Towel Rail blows fuse...

That's what the meter tells me! Could that reading be possible if the thing I'm testing is faulty? Or are you saying I'm not using the multimeter correctly (I've described how I'm testing earlier in this thread). R.

New Heated Towel Rail blows fuse...

What's not possible? I'll put a plug on the radiator flex probably tomorrow now as I've been struggling with this damn thing all day  Very grateful for input from you knowledgeable people tho! I'm just about to drop an email to the eBay seller to say that the unit might be...

New Heated Towel Rail blows fuse...

Nope - it's not soot. It was dust and rubble from the wall which I've since cleaned out after taking those pictures. The camera on my phone makes it look like that, but really the cables and everything in that area are fine. Re plaster depth box - yeah it looks kinda odd the way its done. I'm...
