    ok thankyou, so how could i increase the size of my ceiling joists without thousands of pounds in expense? if i glue and screw cross battens to them will this make them stronger of will the extra weight cause problems?

    i am going to put a raised floor in my loft to accomodate for insulation i am having put down, i have three 6x2's running from gable end to party wall, can i put joist hangers on them and hang new joists from them to make the raised floor area or can this not be done. There is three of them...

    ok mate thanks for ya advice, i will look into that. A mate in work today told me that he made a room in his loft and he purely made his 4x2's up to 8x2's by gluing and screwing more wood ontop of them to make them up to 8" joists, and used the galvanised joint plates for extra support, surely...
