External boiler flue - water ingress

Hadn't thought of the gutter but it looks OK and the sealing looks OK/ I think it may just be that the very strong westerly winds have been blowing the water in. If that's the case then with the design of the outside bit - essentially two open ended pipes with no cover - it's not surprising a...

External boiler flue - water ingress

Hi, We have a ~5 year old Viesmann condensing boiler on the wall in our kitchen. The flue goes straight through the wall to the outside, facing west. In the recent severe gales and rain we've had, small amounts of water have found their way back into the boiler cupboard on a few occasions, and I...

    Matching existing guttering

I need to replace a length of guttering, but cannot match the current profile at any of the big suppliers (Wickes, Jewson, Travis P etc). The current guttering is white uPVC or similar. The rear wall and floor of the gutter are straight, the rear is approx 5.5cm high and almost vertical, the...

Noisy system (can't see the specific problem in the FAQ)

I have left the valve now one turn open. The noise still happens, less often but fairly regularly - it seems to be when the water has heated up from cool/cold for about 45-60 minutes - and when the noise starts I have noticed that the cylinder stat is still asking for heat but the boiler is not...

Update, no news but still working on this - am seeing the builder tomorrow Monday and will update after that. Thanks Geoff

Noisy system (can't see the specific problem in the FAQ)

Oh dear I'm not very good at the technical terms or the photo feature. The reference to T valve and T should both be to a T join/connector - just a plain split in the pipe - don't know the correct term. I can't immediately see reference to a T port in what I've posted I hope photo now...

Noisy system (can't see the specific problem in the FAQ)

My apologies, certainly not my intention. I have a little but not much knowledge on all this. Above the pump is a T valve - one 22mm goes to a 2 way valve which goes to the middle of the cylinder and seems to be the hot water from the boiler. The other 22mm from the pump itself goes to a T...

Noisy system (can't see the specific problem in the FAQ)

The red gate valve is between the pump and the bottom of the HW cylinder. Fuller description from a previous posting: The system is actually controlled by two 2-way valves. So answer to Razor900 is that above the pump the pipe splits into two 22mm pipes - one goes to a two way valve (A)...

Noisy system (can't see the specific problem in the FAQ)

Unfortunately I've tried again after a few minutes and this time it didn't make very much difference at all - in fact opening the valve again it went quieter almost immediately before going back to the annoying level. So answer seems to be sometimes it eliminates or reduces the whine, but it...

Noisy system (can't see the specific problem in the FAQ)

Thanks again Tony, apols not clear. Yes when it is making the whine, closing the red valve fully stops the whine and all that is left is the faint pump/water noise. Opening the valve after 15secs or so, the whine returns after a short delay Geoff

Some further info in response to questions/suggestions: - the boiler is a Viessman Vitodens 100 and the fault was indeed an F4 fault (suspect someone here knows what they’re talking about…) - the control panel is I think the bit which flaps down at the bottom front inside the outer casing? -...

Folks I really appreciate the thought you are giving this. Unfortunately I am now working away from home for the rest of this week but will post additional info early on Saturday. Rgds and thanks again Geoff

Noisy system (can't see the specific problem in the FAQ)

Hi, I thought I'd replied to this earlier but it's not appearing, so I'm trying again. The valve (A in previous posting) starts to move immediately (not sure if it's opening or closing but the manual valve moves from slightly slack to totally slack). The pump starts, and the boiler fires, ~11...

Noisy system (can't see the specific problem in the FAQ)

Thank you all for very swift suggestions, but apologies, I've misled you. (Further info is that the cylinder is "solar-ready" in case the economics made it worth it at some stage. I know that before installation they took advice about connection to boiler only not solar, and at this stage can...

Noisy system (can't see the specific problem in the FAQ)

As part of our house renovation last winter, the builder's plumber fitted a Viessman conventional boiler with an Ariston unvented cylinder. Next to the cylinder there is a motorised valve with three pipes attached which I think sets the combination of HW/CH, and on a separate pipe there is...
