    OK Tony, Dave thanks a lot - think I'm beginning to understand now :-) Do all systems work to the same pressure settings? (1.5 - 2 bar). Does the sytem pressure drop when there is no demand being placed upon it?

    OK maybe my ignorance is more fundamental than I thought! As I understood it, the red needle on the pressure gauge shows the lowest water pressure allowable - is that not correct? Might be worth mentioning that the system has operated perfectly even with these "problems" I'm having!

    Maybe it's not bar - the gauge reads from 0 to 4 - I normally top up till it's about 2.5. Checked outside - no signs of dripping and no water stains etc on the ground suggesting that it has been.
