Outlet for Oven and Ignition for Gas Hob

Thanks for all the replies folks. So I take it from the comments that it's not frowned upon then to have one isolation point for two appliances. From the comments, I think the most sensible option is to change the 1 gang cooker outlet box below counter level for a 2 gang one and just...

sinking a socket on a corner?

To be honest, compared with what they would pay B&Q for an "all in" kitchen installation I'm sure it'll be more than acceptable to them. They were probably quoted something stupid like £3,000 just for installation and I'd hazard a guess they'll be getting the lot, independently, for half that.

Outlet for Oven and Ignition for Gas Hob

Cheers Coljack, I've fitted 47mm back boxes for the cooker circuit because I figured it would be a pain in the backside to fit any accessory. In terms of the multi box things - wish I'd known about them sooner. All the boxes are sunk and a lot of the cable provisionally laid for the...

sinking a socket on a corner?

No idea what going rates are but my Dad was quoted £2,600 - £3,100 to rewire a two bedroom house. The house is unoccupied so it's an easier job than if occupied. OK, so he's going for it in terms of sockets etc (26 doubles and 4 singles) and a plethora of FCU's and stuff) along with two way...

sinking a socket on a corner?

Not guaranteed to work but may reduce or minimise the amount of damaged caused to th corner. Srew a couple of battens to the inner edge of the reveal to strengthen it and help prevent the inner edge blowing outward when you sink the double box. Just a thought but don't sue me if it doesn't...

Outlet for Oven and Ignition for Gas Hob

Cheers oharaf, I was originally planning on having the oven as part of the ring with a switched FCU above and a socket below but figure I should make provision for a larger load in the future given that I have enough 10mm cable left over. However, my main issue is that there is going to...

Outlet for Oven and Ignition for Gas Hob

Evening all, Been grafting away today on this re-wire. As part of the kitchen refit my Dad has bought a single oven. Although this can be connected to a 13a supply, because I've got enough 10mm cable left over from the shower I figure I may as well put a 10mm cable in for the cooker...

    Connecting Loft Tv Amplifier Power

Lol, could just be a big loft.

    Connecting Loft Tv Amplifier Power

Absolutely, although not all DDU's accept power via a F type, most have a pin type socket.

    Connecting Loft Tv Amplifier Power

Yes, and some of the more basic distribution boxes can be powered directly from the 9v RF out 2 on the back of the Sky box. The ditribution box will then send 9v out to every TV point. However, diplexing and triplexing DDU's usually need 12v from a separate cable.

    Connecting Loft Tv Amplifier Power

Some distribution systems have the power adaptor as an F connector so you an put the distribution system in the loft and power it from downstairs simply by running an additional co-ax cable from wherever you wish to plug it in. You then connect the transformer to a power inserter and the power...

Complete DIY Rewire - Including CU

Bizarre, wonder what they's charge for that? Given that there's no seal on the main fuse anyway, it will probably just be easier to switch the CU off so no power is being drawn and then pull the fuse carrier swiftly and smoothly to minimise the risk of an arc (it is an arc that's caused when...

Running a DAB aerial connection to a tv socket

You'll need something from this page: http://grax.co.uk/P/Sky-Compatible-Indoor-AmplifiersDistribution(S19).aspx The exact product you'll need depends on current and future plans but if you're planning on eventually supplying signals to the entire house then this...

    Dragons Den invention

A useless invention IMHO. I feed co-ax and telephone cable through walls day in day out and very rarely have a problem. The only time that you get a problem is when the cable snags on something in the cavity, either insulation or loose mortar or something. In cases where the cable snags...

Complete DIY Rewire - Including CU

Thanks for all the replies folks. Sorry I've not been back sooner - my broadband has been playing up and every time I connect I get thrown off after about 2 minutes which becomes a little frustrating when trying to type a reply. So far I've managed to install all the back boxes (complete with...

Complete DIY Rewire - Including CU

Well, the first day went well (ish). I managed to get about three quarters of the back boxes fitted and a bit of the chasing work one. Also discovered that the crawl space beneath the house is pretty deep too. Starts off at about 5 feet deep and then gets shallower towards the back of the house...

Complete DIY Rewire - Including CU

Thank you coljack. The explanation of maintained / non maintained helps a lot. Now I know what I'm looking for and will also google conversion kits. I was planning on sockets below, FCU's above but was going to use doubles. I'll use singles - thanks. Thanks for the info on cable trays too...

Complete DIY Rewire - Including CU

Cheers comms. Ofcourse - I didn't even think about an outside light. As there'll only be one security light outside it doesn't seem worth having an entirely separate circuit for it. Would it make sense to just run this security light on a switched FCU off the outside socket and shed socket...

Complete DIY Rewire - Including CU

Thanks for the aditional reply rebuke. I'd thought of burying it deeper than 50mm but decided I couldn't be bothered. Forgive the question but what's ali-tube? It's a decent idea not to RCD the fridge and freezer if it's possible. Another thought. The cable for the fridge and freezer will be...

Complete DIY Rewire - Including CU

WOW! Thanks for the quick and detailed reply. Cooker - well spotted. I meant to mention it. My Dad is just opting for a gas cooker. however, I have said to him that we should pre-wire it for an electric oven for future use. He's only planning on staying there for a couple of years because his...
