Nice one - thanks for the suggestion! I have a bunch of felt I can use to give it a go, so that's a low-cost thing to try. I will report back!

dense expanding foam to fill 20mm square section tubing 400mm long

This is really interesting. Truth is I don't know if I need dense or not. I have a whole bunch of dining chairs with hollow metal legs that make a proper racket scraping on the hard floor whenever we get up or sit down. After putting felt on the bottom of one chair legs, I don't think the...

dense expanding foam to fill 20mm square section tubing 400mm long

Hi @opps - thanks very much for your response. Really appreciate it. Yes, sorry, 400mm length, not depth. Interesting I had seen the gun variety but wasn't sure. That definitely sounds like the right way to go to avoid shooting the foam all over everywhere. Are any foams more heavy / dense...

dense expanding foam to fill 20mm square section tubing 400mm long

Hi I am looking for recommendations for a really dense expanding foam that I could use to fill lengths of 20mm square section tubing to a depth of 400mm. Would also be grateful for advice on best method of application to ensure I reach the desired depth (and without getting expanding foam...

joint sealer concrete-to-pvc and pvc-to-pvc driveway channel drain

Looking for recommendations on product to use to get a watertight seal for joints in my driveway channel drain. I will need to seal a joint between concrete and the floor of the pvc drain. I will also need to seal joints between sections of the pvc drain (around 1mm where they butt up against...

securing 1.5mm T&E cores inside circular 4-terminal junction box

I can see that - it's a way better design than the round one. If either the J501 or the J804 would do the job I think I might go for the J804. That way I can have the T&E with the incoming power entering the J804 from one side and the two sets of T&E for the fans exiting the other side of the...

securing 1.5mm T&E cores inside circular 4-terminal junction box

Nice. Not seen that before. My application is two inline extractor fans, each 25W, 240V. located in loft space secured to joist. Would the J 501be suitable?

securing 1.5mm T&E cores inside circular 4-terminal junction box

Hi I will be using one of these junction boxes (20A version) with three 1.5mm T&E cables. I can't find a picture of the internals but it has four 'pillars' each with a tighten-down grub screw. My question is: what is the best way to secure the cores so they make a good durable connection? I...

    Soundproofing an en suite toilet

Hi All i'm looking for some advice on materials for soundproofing around an existing en suite toilet that already has some soundproofing in the stud wall it's made from. The main problem is the sound coming from the wastewater from the toilet flush and cistern refilling that can be heard in...

    Leaky Karcher K4 Compact

Quick update - I managed to prise the motor cap off the motor housing. There are two chubby gaskets (as in pic above), one at the top and one at the bottom which I guess should be forming the seal. They seem in good order, but the lower one has some white sludge on it so maybe it's not sealing...

    Leaky Karcher K4 Compact

Hi Blup, thanks for that. I don't think the problem is in the cylinder head - there's no leak coming from there. The leak is from the bottom of the unit between the motor housing and what the diagrams call the 'motor cap'. I'm not sure bit it seems like unpressurised hose water actually...

    Leaky Karcher K4 Compact

Hi All Would really appreciate some pointers on how to fix my leaky Karcher K4 Compact. The machine still works but unpressurised water dribbles out the bottom of the motor housing, from the gap between the silver and black parts (the motor and housing), shown by the blue line in the picture...

    Dimmer for 3 x 10W LED floodlights

Hi I'd like to wire three 10-watt floodlights into a single dimmer switch (with box, not wall-mounted) that I can then run to a 3-pin plug in a wall socket. I've drawn what I have in mind in the attached pic. Any advice or pointers on a suitable dimmer switch and / or how to wire up very much...

Patio join to house, and damp

Thanks Halitosis Have my eye on some nice pebbles so think I'll go the 'filling' route. But I'll definitely be keeping an eye in future to make sure the trench is not filling up with crud. On the crud point, I'm thinking of putting a concrete skim on the vertical patio side of the trench to...

Patio join to house, and damp

Thanks Mr Chibs What size pebbles would you go for? Do you think it's worth putting a dpm along the length of the house-side of the trench? Many thanks again!
