    Cross Battens

yeah true I can see what your saying.. just drill through the battens to stop them from splitting and not worry about pilot holes for the beams.. I guess that would make more sense.. Jag

Cool.. I'll find a drill bit that is long enough to pilot drill the holes.. 4x130mm should do the job Jag

    Cross Battens

Thanks for the tip guys.. Think the drill bit in question is too thick at 5mm for pilot holes as the screws are 6mm Putting the screws in at an angle could work though so will consider that.. I'm getting 6x130mm screws so I can technically screw the battens down from the top as the batten...

    Cross Battens

Hi All - I'm raising the height of the floor in my loft to secure down some loft boards.. I'm going down the cross battening route. My existing joists are 65mm high and I'm using 45x95mm battens.. I'm getting 6x130mm wood screws to fix the new battens to the joists. Should I be drilling pilot...

    Electic Sockets Tripping

definitely will have to get an electrician in.. it was strange that the electrics stay on for 2 minutes or so after being resetting the RCD then trip again.. but it's so inconsistent makes it even more difficult to diagnose as we can't always replicate the issue Jag

    Electic Sockets Tripping

Aragorn84 - Process of elimination every other circuit MCB works fine it seems to only trip the RCD when the kitchen ring main is on, even if the kitchen MCB is the only one... This is why I was saying could it possibly be a faulty MCB as the individual MCB for the kitchen isn't tripping...

    Electic Sockets Tripping

Might be a silly question but are you saying that the outside socket is piggy backed off one of the internal sockets thus finding the socket nearest to the outside one.. I guess just unscrewing the face of it will tell me if it is piggy backed Thanks Jag

    Electic Sockets Tripping

Hi PrenticeBoyofDerry This is how they are labelled up: 1. Ring Main Sockets Up 2. Ring Main Sockets Down 3. Ring Main Sockets Kitchen 4. Ring Main Boiler & Attic Number 3 is the problem one and I believe the outside sockets are part it. That Number 3 covers the whole kitchen...

    Electic Sockets Tripping

Hi All – Just a quick question about my Fuse box / electrics.. I believe it’s a Wylex NHRS6604. My Kitchen and my garage extension both run a separate ring and the electrics keep tripping in the whole house not the Lights just the electrical points. The main RCD switch in the middle of the...

    Electric or Gas

Might be a silly question but what would be cheaper to run overnight. An electric dimplex cadiz eco heater 3kw with controller set to run at 20 degrees in one bedroom or running my gas central heating throughout the whole house again temp set to 20 on the stat. The reason I ask is that we’ve...
