So you can't drill the steel H section in case you weaken it but you can drill a 25mm hole in every wooden floor joist supported by it without any worries !! :oops:

OK, the fault appears to be the live feed from lounge wall switch to the lounge light ceiling rose. If I leave this disconnected at the switch all lights to this point work without tripping the mcb. If I connect it and disconnect it at the rose it trips the mcb. What is the easiest and right way...

Thanks BS3036, just tried that as soon as main switched on, light mcb trips out.

This morning I disconnected - door bell, outside light, 3 fluorescent light units, and inspected all of the ceiling roses, and on off swithes. The mcb will not reset still. Thanks guys for your help. Door bell appears to be on the same circuit so I will disconnect it tommorrow and forgot there is an out side light that could be full of water so will check that too.
