    Leaking stop cock behind wall

.....I hid in shame for days but can now report that yes - simply tightening the gland nut worked. Took ages to get a spanner in there and find the nut, totally blind and only able to get one arm in the hole, but thanks for the advice.

    Leaking stop cock behind wall

Hi all. Got a weird one. House which was converted from flats. There are two stop cocks - one where you'd expect on ground floor, another half way up the house which shuts off top two floors of water only. This second stop cock is only accessible through a wall mounted hatch (and you have to...

Dripping wall mounted tap.. can't see how to access washer

OK. Think I may have a problem.. parts A and B in the pic below both unscrew. If I unscrew B only, I get to see C, which looks to the cartridge. Problem is, gap to access is only about 1mm when B is horizontal (in pic below B is tilted forwards by as much as it will go, exposes about 3mm) Any...

Oh. There are pictures (and there were some in the first post - @Old&Cold 's first reply now makes sense if they aren't visible). I can see them on the desktop / chrome version of the forum but not on my iphone... will try and see if I can fix pic view

Dripping wall mounted tap.. can't see how to access washer

Hello all I have a dripping hot tap in a bathroom. Hard water area so am guessing limescale. Taps by buckmoy posted 7 Aug 2018 at 1:55 PM I can't see how to open up the tap to have a look. I was expecting an allen key screw underneath somewhere to enable the housing to be removed, but there...

    Draining CH into subfloor

Hello Is it OK to drain a CH system into the subfloor? Just once, to change a rad. Wooden joists, victorian house, subfloor is just what you'd expect under a 100 year old house I guess, compacted soil type stuff. Thanks

    Vailant 824e Kettling on CH

Thanks Tony - the rads get hot eventually but it takes ages (about 90 minutes (only 3 rads on circuit, one floor of a house)), as the CH circuit is only being heated in short bursts. Also thanks SimonD - HW works OK...on demand it gets hot, then very hot, then cools a bit, then very hot again...

Prob shouldn't have needed to google that, but yes - flow valves are open

    Vailant 824e Kettling on CH

Thanks Gordongas, I will have a look (on google and the boiler) to see. I assumed sludge or scale due to the boiler previously making noise like a prop plane going overhead - but that went away after it was drained to have a new rad fitted. So I guessed it had kind of moved on Anyway will...

    Vailant 824e Kettling on CH

Hello all. Got a Vailant Turbomax 824/e which I've been trying to keep alive for a few years. It had a diverter valve changed recently by a great gas engineer (as HW had stopped working but CH was fine). HW is now OK, but I am now getting some bad kettling when CH comes on - boiler fires, temp...

    Jammed Bristan Thermostatic Cartridge

Hello all I have searched these forums and youtube etc but cannot find anything.. Background: Shower is luke warm (HW to other places is fine) Shower is about 8 years old and we live in a hard water area so I think thermostatic cartridge may be crudded, Can't identify the exact shower type but...

Combi boiler noise: low flying plane to elephant

Thanks for the replies. I'll make a vid so you can hear a sad elephant in action.. Yep - not trying to allocate blame, geezer who fitted rad was really sound, just wondered out of interest if there was a cunning way to do this on old systems without causing crud to travel to the HE (eg...

Combi boiler noise: low flying plane to elephant

Hello Had a new rad fitted in my flat, since then the boiler has been making noises on CH startup and HW usage. CH startup getting worse..at first I honestly thought a plane had flown over my house (about 3 seconds of noise)..now it sounds more like a really sad elephant (about 5 minutes of...

Is my boiler about to explode?

Hey Gasman - a good tip..if only the installation plumber had thought of that when he recommended it to me! he did sound in a rush though. I will use the lowest drain cock from now on. WHy is it bad to use pressure relief? Out of interest.

    Add tank to Combi system?

mains supply is not good - just above legal requirement I beleive. So water tank is the way to go. Does this have to feed all HW (eg kitchen, bathroom taps) or is it possible just to have it feeding shower and bath? Also - how do I economically control when this tank is filled and how it...
