Immersions not heating direct unvented cylinder

Thanks guys. I'm obviously missing something and will go back and disconnect the connections to the elements before I measure their resistance again. It'll be great if I don't order two immersions unneccessarily.

Immersions not heating direct unvented cylinder

It definitely read 20Ω and 0.020 when on the KΩ scale. I think that either I wasn't measuring what I thought I was measuring because the elements were still connected to the contoller, or it's because I'm using 9v DC from the battery inthe multimeter to measure what is in reality an impedence...

Immersions not heating direct unvented cylinder

Decend from your pulpit Ian. I am G3 and more skilled with a multi-meter than most electricians, but I'm not too proud to ask for advice when something doesn't make sense to me. We can all overlook something and say Ahah! when someone is kind enough to point it out to us.

Immersions not heating direct unvented cylinder

I put the multi-meter across the terminals of the element, so the voltage is getting past the thermostat and the thermal cut out. I turned of the power, swithched the muli-meter to the auto-ranging Ohms setting and put the test leads in exactly the same place.. on the wires that come out of the...

Immersions not heating direct unvented cylinder

Customer has a small unvented direct cylinder with two immersions and is getting no hot water. I think one of the immersions must have failed previously but no-one realised. Voltage across the element terminals is 240V and both elements have a resitance of 20 Ohms. Have disconnected the supply...

Since changing the pump the controller relays stick?!

Have you got the link to the CC thread you talk about regarding Grundfos pump heads, I can't find it.

    Problem with Danfoss radiator valve

I can't get one of these valve heads off.... Any tips for stubborn ones? The black plastic ring at the base only tuns about 45 degrees, tried encouraging it with my pump pliers... next step seems to be break it off :(

    HotPoint Aquarius 1000 - Wm62

Thanks every one, especially Fidom for his razor sharp diagnosis. This one turned into a bit of a saga. In the process of of trying to test the solenoid, I pulled off one of the solenoid connectors while it was still live and shorted it out to the neutral on one of the connectors. This...

    HotPoint Aquarius 1000 - Wm62

Rocks, No it doesn't fill when it gets to the start of the rinse cycle. I filled it using a hose into the soap draw and then it started going again. What I don't understand is that the solenoids are getting 240v but not opening, but they do open at the start of the program when the machine...

    HotPoint Aquarius 1000 - Wm62

I measured the voltage with a voltmeter, but I didn't check the coil resistance. I think the solenoids are ok, because they operate to allow the machine to fill when it begins the program and it always the cycle always stops at the same point, at the beginning of the rinse cycle.

    HotPoint Aquarius 1000 - Wm62

HI, I've been looking at Tony's machine with him. The solenoids appear to work as the the machine fills. But, when the machine is stuck, there is 240v going to the solenoids, but they do not open. I filled the machine with a hose through the soap dispenser draw and it started running again...

New inlet hose for AEG Washing machine

Hi, I've got an AEG washing machine with a very fancy looking inlet hose, that is leaking. It has the number 40010188 written on it and I've found them for sale on Ebay, but only on the german site. It has what looks like some kind of inlet valve on it at the mains connection end. I was...

"floating" voltage in central heating wiring

I recently replaced the syncron motor in a to port heating zone valve. Before rplacing the motor thaat I had removed, I checked the voltage supply to it in the power up and power off conditions. I got the expected 240V in the power on condition, but when test ing the power off state, I found...

Vaillant TURBOmax Plus 824E Boiler LOCKOUT F28 Fault Code

I've just had an F28 error on this boiler. Looked like a gas valve failure at first sight, but all coil resistances looked fine. I called Vaillant Tech support and they confirmed that the coil resistances were all good. They got me to check the green resistor on the PCB, which was fine at...

    Problem with Grundfoss CH Pump

Anyone managed to source a replacement capacitor yet? I have a perfectly good pump with a duff capacitor and would like to make use of it! The capacitor is made by Cambridge capacitors, who I have found a phne number for, but they don't seem to answer the phone.

moving a boiler (not gas safe registered)

I've looked through the Part L1B and cant find anything that says moving a boiler is the same as replacing one. I called my local Building Control office and they said they weren't aware of any such condition and wouldn't insist on upgrading the boiler. Anyone seen this witten down and could...
