pumping over when hot water selected

Thanks all. I cannot detect any obvious magnetic areas in the pipework around the F&E,pump etc, would it be obvious?. I did consider turning the pump down to 1 but the pump has always been at 3 and it's a slightly larger house (14 radiator panels in all) and was concerned the boiler may come...

pumping over when hot water selected

fully pumped system, sunvic 3 port valve, grundfos 15/50 pump, worcester greenstar boiler. I've noticed recently that the vent pipe to the F&E tank is producing a constant trickle of water when I select for hot water alone or heating & hot water. Heating alone does not produce this flow. I also...

    exposed mains cable behind boiler

Looks like the plumber was right. Tested the cable myself with a volt detector and it doesn't appear to be live. Also looked further around under the floor and found the end of a cut off cable of the same size near to where the exposed cable may have entered. Guess that it is the old cooker...

    exposed mains cable behind boiler

Perhaps I should clarify that the upstairs I mention is my upstairs in my house and that by mains I meant the supply to the upstairs sockets or lights from the junction box. The cable is the thick flattish grey kind, about 15mm x 5mm, the same as what runs betweeen my sockets. I'll go under the...

    exposed mains cable behind boiler

I've recently had a new boiler fitted in a downstairs kitchen. The new position of the flue meant the disturbing of what I believe to be the mains supply to upstairs. This cable was originally just buried under the plaster as it is an oldish house. Now the cable emerges just above the boiler...

    boiler leak

Got quote from plumber No1, £1900 for flush and Veissmann. A little more palatable and more like what I was expecting.

    boiler leak

The guy who made the initial diagnosis has yet to give me a quote, doubt that he intends to after nearly a fortnight. The second plumber's quote of £2500 is pretty much just for the Viessmann boiler and flush. No new valves or controls and the rest of the system is up to scratch, the...

    boiler leak

Just got a quote, this one using a veissmann vitodens 100. Pretty much just a swap of boilers and a powerflush £2500. This is bit more than I thought it might be. Any thoughts? Still waiting on a couple of others one using a worcester greenstar. Thanks.

    boiler leak

My 14 year old gloworm spacesaver kfb 50 has began to drip quite a bit from within the body of the boiler when turned on. The engineer that came to have a look said immediatly that it was the heat exchanger leeking, that it was terminal and that I require a new boiler. He did this without...

    basin bottle trap size

I require a bottle trap for a bathroom sink but the waste pipe is 40mm rather than 32mm. Are traps available which are 32mm basin end and 40 mm waste end? Also, are there traps which push fit on to the waste pipes? The ones I see all seem to be compression.

    how do i attach aquapanel?

How do I attach Aquapanel sheets to a brick bathroom wall around a shower? Can i just use screws and plugs and if so of what size? The manufacturers seem to prefer attaching them to timber battons but what size should these be? The panels will then be tiled. Thanks.

which plaster should i use before tanking?

Thanks. Unfortunatley some of the areas, particularly where the top of the old bath was and where an inset soap dish was have lost all the plaster right back to the brick so leaving large deep troughs which I thought might be too deep to fill with tile cement.

which plaster should i use before tanking?

Which type of plaster should I use to repair an area of around 2 square metres prior to tiling and tanking in a shower area? Manufacturers advise not to attach tiles to base coats so do I have to use a finishing coat also? Do I need to add a finishing coat to a much larger area ( 3 or 4 square...

    render/plaster/aquapanel?

Thanks. I think I will just leave the top section of plaster ( it's more like the top two thirds of the wall). Got a BAL tanking kit to tank the area once i've sorted the damaged bottom bit.

    render/plaster/aquapanel?

I've just removed the tiles from around my bath which is bordered by brick walls on two sides and a plywood partition with shower on the third. I plan to replace the plywood with Aquapanel but am not sure what to do with the wall which runs the length of the bath and takes the brunt of the...

can you move the feet of a bath? (a bit)

How much leeway or scope for adjustment is there in the feet of a bath? I'm after a new one , maybe a Kaldewei Saniform 1700x750 and am concerned that the feet of any bath I buy might not fit around the existing pipework under there. Can they be slightly moved by a few mm up or down the length...

    Mira shower fitting/flexible hoses

Thanks for the response. Yeah, low pressure. I'll look into the Aqualisa though unfortunatley there doesn't seem to be any installation documentation available on their website which I have found usefull when looking at the Mira products (was considering an Excel B). The cheapest Aqualisa 609 I...

    Mira shower fitting/flexible hoses

i'm planning to replace my old Mira 722 gravity fed built in mixer shower with a new Mira with hopefully similar fittings/ dimensions as the old one for ease of installation. The fittings and pipe work are all situated in a cramped airing cupboard with the controls and shower head fitted to the...

    hot water/no heating-diverter valve?

got the motor, £40 successfully fitted it, took around half an hour from start to finish after squirting some wd40 around and turning the valve a few times. Having taken a closer look there is sign of quite a bit of seepage over time so i will change the valve shortly but I guess I'll have to...
