    Yep, you are absolutely right. The filter was stuffed full of some sort of fluff. I emptied it out and everything seems good again. I guess the set of brushes that I've already bought might come in useful one day. D'oh! :) Thanks for all your help - it's very much appreciated! :)

    I had a little play with the washing machine and it's showing another symptom. If it freezes in a normal wash cycle and you cancel the cycle then put it onto rinse and spin (to try and get the clothes out in a sensible condition) then it pours water out of the washing powder tray.     How will I know if they're worn when I look at them? Why does this cause the machine to 'freeze'? Does it count how many rotations the drum does and because it stops rotating it never gets to the number it's expecting? I always assumed it was a timer.

    You were absolutely right and when I watched it doing a 40 fast wash it filled the drum over half full (more than halfway up the door). That's not right!! :) So, I've ordered a new pressure switch. ;)

    Thanks for posting that reply as to how to fix this problem! I search on Google and found this article and it solved the problem without costing me anything at all! I found over ten pounds in loose change in the filter and after just looking in the pressure chamber and fiddling with the pressure...
