no i just "went for it" wether it was a jigsaw / circ saw or hand saw I just tried to keep the blade against the joist, this is what Im after tips/tricks/tools to do the job

Hiya lads Im back :wink: , Ive fekked up :oops: Spent the last few days bustin' ma balls, getting to the final stages and cutting the boards to fit the frame and the circular saw I was using cut right into the frame so Ive ruined about 3 boards and will have to lift and replace them...

sorry mate I didnt make myself clear I meant cutting a square out of the board so it can slide around the newel See my crude picture below :lol:

thanks lads, now what about cutting the square edges out of the boards for the newels, whats the best tool/method as I can see a problem if I cut two straight lines into the board how would I cut the bottom bit out to effectively remove that piece of board from the rest, hope you understand...

Hiya Lads, An update for anyone interested......It Worked.....!!! Drilled out the dowel with a 32mm flat wood bit, however the Mrs was near screwfix so I told her to grab another 3 of their cheapy £1.56 32mm drill bits as they where going blunt after each post Hope this helps someone in...

Hiya Lads, Thanks for the replies, this afternoon I paid a visit to the local timber merchant and picked up some 25mm x 2000mm (£4.25) dowel which Ive cut to size and glued with Blue Evostick Wood Glue, says it takes 24 hrs to dry so I wont try anything else with it till tomorrow afternoon...

Hiya Im Back.... :lol: Things are progressing but Ive just hit another snag, I bought some 24mm manila rope and drilled 25mm holes through the posts however when I came to thread the rope through theres not a chance in hell it will go through so I put my next drill bit in from 25mm to 32mm...

yes im turning it off at the fused spur, not at the consumer box, when i turn it off at the spur the timer controls remain on, however if I turn it off at the consumer box the timer controls go off also anything i can do to check/verify your thoughts?
