Thanks ChrisR you're a genius. It worked like a dream and I have reconnected the switch and it still works fine. Not sure why it stopped working in the first place but hopefully it wont happen again. thanks again :D

The pressure gauge was on 0 initially so I switched the valve on the filling loop until it went to 2 - I have subsequently reduced it to 1.5 using the other value to release the pressure The low pressure light is still on and I have no hot water nor any heating!!!
