Macallister 1400w slide saw, weird motor issue

It was very strange ... it was the motor itself pulsing/struggling. If I gave the bade a pre-spin (no brake on this one!) then it helped it get going. Totally felt like something electrical. As you say, (ab)use until it dies I think.

Macallister 1400w slide saw, weird motor issue

Had no idea these things even had one .. serviceable? I don't see them under common parts on the few spare sites that list this model or GMC equiv.

Macallister 1400w slide saw, weird motor issue

Had the casing off .. brushes look fine but for the sake of a few quid I might swap them anyway. Works perfectly today weirdly. Do these things have some kind of thermal protection? It was left in the sun yesterday and had quite a lot of use. Ta, M

Macallister 1400w slide saw, weird motor issue

Of course I don't have the receipt :-) Purchased as a beater tool, just wondering if I can get it back working with something simple or if it's a skip job. Found a site which supplies parts for not silly money, but I've never heard a motor make that noise before. Cheers

Macallister 1400w slide saw, weird motor issue

http://tinypic.com/r/21mhy86/9 ...was working fine then started doing this. Brushes? Anything more serious and I suspect it's for the bin. Cheers!

    Loft to office 'conversion'

Weekend update time. Break in the rain meant only one thing, Velux time. I'll be honest, this is the job I was dreading the most - something sphincter tightening about cutting a hole in your own roof in September in this country - literally anything could happen. The roof has nasty...

Couldn't agree more. Or worst case an indemnity policy for a few £££. Cheers!

    Loft to office 'conversion'

I had plans and structural done for a proper conversion and had a couple of EAs give opinions. I couldn't justify the expense for office use hence the 'posh loft' route. Budget is £2.5-3k total (including relocation boiler) so if I had to rip it out (unlikely) when/if I sell it wouldn't be the...

    Loft to office 'conversion'

Update time! - All new floor joists are in place - 2/3 of the floor itself is in (2400x600 sheets are a pain but worth it!) - Started adding the battens to the inside of roof rafters to take the new insulation - Started on the stud work to show where the walls around the perimeter will go and...

    Loft office insulation

Been a while but finally about ready to start with the insulation part .. floor is down and everything nice and solid :-) For the roof new plan is: 30mm battens on top of 100mm existing rafters Hang 80mm insulation board (non-foil) between them using rafter clips Vapour barrier over the top...

    Loft to office 'conversion'

I think it's a little more than fingers in the air but fair enough but everyone is different, personally I wouldn't be put off as long as it has been done with a little sense.

    Loft to office 'conversion'

Thanks!! Update time... The floor joists on the right hand side (looking at plan) are all in :-) Still have a few noggins to add but that's about it. I moved the loft hatch a little to make accessing the bathroom below easier when the ladder is down as it seemed a logical time to do it...

Vapour control layer and celotex loft quickie.

Sorry to dredge this up but doing something similar and wondered if you had more pics? Did you plasterboard? Any issues? Cheers!

    Loft office insulation

Interesting, seems fairly good going on specs, certainly above the standard cheap tin foil stuff. http://www.ybsinsulation.com/products_roof_superquilt.htm OK so revised plan would be: - 50mm between rafters w/50mm gap - 50mm at 90 degrees to the rafters - Plasterboard - Use the foil backed...

    Loft office insulation

Awesome, thanks. Latest idea for the insulation seems to be. - Leave the 100mm (4") gap between rafters and roof boards - 100mm celotex at 90 degrees to the rafters - Battens (not sure on size yet, 20mm or so) - Supa quilt foil stuff (or alternative) over the battens (taped) - Plasterboard...

    Loft office insulation

    1. Fair enough. PITA to do this with noggins in place already but that's my fault for bad planning :-) 2. So your recommendation would be to staple vapour control directly to rafters (nothing between them) and then insulation board at 90 degrees to the rafters (100mm). Everything taped...
