    EICR and Bonding

Thanks. You've cheered me up! Having a bit of a 'mare with this house, and this had the capacity to make things a lot worse....

    EICR and Bonding

That would be very simple of that's acceptable with the regs/EICR..

    EICR and Bonding

It would be invasive to run a whole new run from the CU to the gas as it goes up/down walls (behind plaster) and under floors... If it's a case of just joining the gas bond termination to the existing water bond termination, it's a piece of cake.... My understanding, however, was that it would...

    EICR and Bonding

Hi, Looking for a bit of advice, please. I'm midway through updating a Victorian terrace and I'm looking at the electrics... The house will be a rental, and I'm aware the EICR will fail as they CU has no RCD protection and is very old. I'm happy to do get that sorted, but I'm less sure about...

    Gotcha! I understand. Thanks again!

    Rad Valve Cap

Just to confirm as I can’t quite get my head around it... I fit the rad and connect the flow/return. I then remove the decorators cap and fit the TRV head. There will be no water escape when I remove the cap? Why?

    Rad Valve Cap

Hi Please see attached image. The builder left the radiator valve like this. I have a TRV to go on, but I expected the cap would just unscrew and I would screw the TRV on. When I loosened the cap, water spurts out from the system. Do I need to drain the whole system to fit the TRV??

    Oak veneer door

Hi, I've just purchased some Osmo Polyx Oil to finish my oak veneered doors. The one thing I'm not sure about it how to prepare them for the oil? There's a few grubby finger marks from fitting that I need to clean off. Also, there's some residual dust from manufacture on them. I seem to recall...

    Query re Part P Inspection

Yes, that sums it up nicely....I don't have a problem with that at all.. This is the sticking point... I might be splitting hairs here, and I've gone ahead and paid the invoice regardless, but I'm keen to understand if I've effectively paid for something - or a portion of something - twice...

    Query re Part P Inspection

Hi, I've now received the report and it's an EICR for all the circuits in the house. There's no mention of the new work on it, just existing. Is this sufficient for the building regs requirements? I'm still a bit perplexed... I get the feeling the builder should've paid for the inspection of...

    Query re Part P Inspection

Thanks both. Basically, 5 years ago we had the house fully rewired by a registered electrician. Unfortunately, after that work was carried out, a whole series of events unfolded (not related to the work/elecrtician) that resulted in the certificate never been issued. Five years later and with...

    Query re Part P Inspection

Thanks for your reply. Yes, fully under control of Building Inspector etc. It's all been done properly in that respect. I've yet to see the certificate. Will it be specific about what was tested?

    Query re Part P Inspection

I've just had a small extension built on my house. As part of the build, there's been new lights/sockets/switches etc added to my existing board. When the builder quoted for the job, he specified that all electrical work would be completed to a Part P standard. I assumed, wrongly, that this...

As subject... What are the chances of me removing a picture rail held on with Pink Grip without pulling plaster off the wall?

I wouldn't deny that. I'm big enough to own up to my mistakes. I suppose you wouldn't understand that as you've clearly never made one. You are hilarious though...

    Help With Hinge

OK - makes sense. My gate opens inwards, so the hinge will go on the inside, hence my confusion about the square hole. So in my case, if the coach bolt goes on the inside, I will have bolts on the outside? Obvious question no.2 coming up... What's to stop someone coming along and unhooking the...
