    Fireplace surround

I was advised that in order to install/replace the existing open fireplace with a stove I would have to remove all the wooden panelling to the front and side of the chimney. Reading the regulations it seems that a 300mm distance is required for combustible materials. Therefore this seems...

    Painting over Glossed Woodwork

hi folks, just being this thread back to life as I'm planning the same. assuming the advice is still valid? also have a few knots bleeding though from the 20 year old gloss. can i assume its safe to lightly sand and paint over rather than strip right back and use knotting solution. planning...

    Render,tile or cladding?

Thanks Freddie, yes I appreciate is a tough job. I’ve got tot extend both ridge’s and lose he window cills. Tricky around the waste pipe in the corner and the chimney as well. The main job is the re-render, EWI was the afterthought and the chap looking at quoted for Weber EWI M1 system. I...

    Cill

Looking at EWI and render but worried about how to finish the windows? at present it’s tile, plan at the moment is to bash it off and retro fit a upvc Cill which I’m not keen on as my extension had those and they look a bit naff. Anyone got any other ideas?

    Render,tile or cladding?

    Timber for fascia

It’s for my garage front. The joists are 8” I’m using 18mm OSB on top and soffit will be under so 225mm (9inch) seemed to be the right choice. Prefer wood over PVC. I guess I could rip a sheet of ply down. I need approx 5.5m. Although with ply at £50 a sheet and 9x1 planed at £10 a metre not...

    Timber for fascia

I thought the groove was just a Routed run for the soffit? Didn’t realise the whole board had grooves in it? Why is PVC smooth then?

    Timber for fascia

What’s the best timber to use for fascia? I’m leaning towards planed redwood 9x1. Would have thought treated would be better but noone seems to do treated that except in 2x3 etc

    flat roof edge detailing

Yep thats looks like what I will have to do which seems silly as the whole point of the edge trim it to do away with the up-stand!

    flat roof edge detailing

Thanks higgy but that creates another issue with how to finish the EPDM. I guess I could run the EPDM over the upstand (and lose the trims) and lose the edge of the EPDM under the fascia. Not sure that would look as good as the EPDM trim though

    flat roof edge detailing

So the question remains, is a fascia board required and if so how to fix it?

    flat roof edge detailing

Yep I guess I won’t tell until I start stripping it back I think that’s attached to the wooden upstand that won’t be replaced with as I’m using a Modern EPDM roof as edge trim. I took a photo looks like what I said above,

    flat roof edge detailing

I can’t add an overhang on the other side as it’s up against a road and trucks will hit it.

    flat roof edge detailing

I've seen plenty of flat roof garage's with no overhang its pretty standard I believe.

    flat roof edge detailing

Yes exactly. Usually I would fascia then trim but as from my (badly drawn) diagram you can see that the Joists run parallel to the wall and the top of the joist is level with the wall hence when I add 18mm OSB I will run it over the joist/wall to the edge. how would I fix the fascia? unless I...

    flat roof edge detailing

anyone any idea how to finish the detailing on this flat roof? I won't have an 'upstand' on the edge or the roof as plan on using these EPDM trims: https://www.rubber4roofs.co.uk/shop/sure-edge-kerb-trim-2-5m as such shall I just leave it at that or will it look a bit odd? Don't really have...
