According to the transformer instructions the input must be earthed to the transformer (this will be done) but the outputs must not be earthed only l+n required.

i would say (sensible advice) as long as 1/3 of the nail or more is through the top wood into the wood it is secured to you will be fine !! for my deck i used 75mm screw nails (these are not expensive) and will hold forever
