Soundproofing A Brick Party Wall-Best Method?

We have soundproofed the two alcoves in the front room and bedroom (these rooms on floorboards), and the kitchen which has a concrete floor. Just the back bedroom to go. This is a 1930s semi with a brick party wall that allows lots of noise through. Fortunately our joists run front to back...

What thickness of solid polycarbonate sheet for windows?

Hi again Think I'll give him the day off! We can reduce the size of glazing all round as there's a deep rebate, so thanks for that advice.

What thickness of solid polycarbonate sheet for windows?

Sorry Big-All, lost the plot there for a moment with the diversion into metric vs imperial. 'roof less than 1900 ... and if you have 69x44 each side off the window and you have 100x20 rebated into the 69x44mm' Yes, much more than this to support the glass/roof, so we seem to be OK. Phew...

Hi Big-All What's the verdict? Will snow bring the conservatory down around our ears?

EPDM dry seal for single glazing to wooden frame?

Hmmm. Not convinced. I usually find it very hard to remove from glass - perhaps I'm using the wrong type of silicone sealer? Is dry glazing so terribly the wrong thing to use?

EPDM dry seal for single glazing to wooden frame?

I'm also concerned that I might smear silicone over the visible wood surface and make it difficult to maintain ie apply a new coat of finish when necessary. The wood is vacuum treated so only needs a finish for decoration and have used a clear one to keep the golden colour of the timber so...

What thickness of solid polycarbonate sheet for windows?

It's easy to make mistakes with frequent conversions back and forth between units. Also simpler to think in one set of units than a mixture. Look what happened at NASA!

What thickness of solid polycarbonate sheet for windows?

Hi I know how to convert but can't be doing with it. Prefer to work in one dimension or the other rather than keep getting the calculator out! Have done all the measurements in metric. Sorry no pic, but there's one rafter above the area above the window.

EPDM dry seal for single glazing to wooden frame?

Thanks for that. It's definitely going to be single glazing. I was concerned that silicone sealant would be a real pain to remove if I ever had a broken pane and had to remove the glass for a repair. Any particular type of sealant?

What thickness of solid polycarbonate sheet for windows?

Hi Sorry, can't keep up! Can we keep to metric please? What do you recommend timber-wise to prevent excessive loading on the glass? For excessive snowfall, we would clear the roof in any case before it changed to wet heavy stuff.

EPDM dry seal for single glazing to wooden frame?

Has anyone any thoughts on the best glazing method for single glazed windows in wooden frames, held in place with beading? 15mm rebate. For a conservatory. I found EPDM dry glazing listed on http://www.awstrading.co.uk. I followed these links >weather seals>window seals>dry seal. Do not...

What thickness of solid polycarbonate sheet for windows?

Extra wood in the form of beading - outer beading fixed to uprights and cross pieces is 40mm x 15mm. Inner beading is 30 x 15. All to be screwed in place.

What thickness of solid polycarbonate sheet for windows?

Timber above the glass is 20x100mm, in a piece that spans from the corner to mid-way over the door frame. One of the roof rafters sits on this wood at the centre of the window and rafter is 45 x 100mm. Infill between rafters of 20x100mm to create a T shape girder effect. Rafters spaced at...

What thickness of solid polycarbonate sheet for windows?

It's a diy lean-to, replacing a bit of a shack-like lean-to that had rotted, so now has much more robust and attractive woodwork, plus a twin-wall polycarbonate roof, so like to think it's more 'proper' now, but it's all in the eye of the beholder, suppose. The quote was probably not out of...

What thickness of solid polycarbonate sheet for windows?

Might be because the page is a search results page? I went to the website, http://www.awstrading.co.uk, then I clicked on weather seals, then window seals, then from the list of products that came up, I chose dry seal.

What thickness of solid polycarbonate sheet for windows?

Thanks very much for that info, big-all. Glass is looking more attractive if polycarbonate is that easy to push in, as don't want to tempt anyone to break in. Was looking at polycarbonate as just had a humungous quote from a local glazier to measure up, deliver and fit glass. So will...

What thickness of solid polycarbonate sheet for windows?

I'm thinking of using clear polycarbonate instead of glass for single glazing our timber conservatory. It is sold in various thicknesses but not sure what is the minimum sensible thickness - I want to use polycarbonate instead of glass because it will be easier to handle and fit, and it...
