    That old chestnut

Hi, they loop behind the radiator and into the wall. Approx 10-15cm below where they go into the wall, the wall is warm so I presume they conenct to the rest of the system very close to where they go into the wall.

It's a small plastic pipe, probably about 15mm. However, this is the same on all rads

Thanks for the reply. I have previously closed all of the other rads off, and yes the hot water spur was also closed. There is a bypass, as can be seen here: Not sure on the brand of the boiler, will check later.

Thanks for the replies. I tried removing the TRV head yesterday, unfortunately this has made no difference. Would the pipework be blocked if I could pull warm water through when bleeding?

Sorry, I'm spamming my own post... Thinking about it, if the TRV was stuck, then surely it wouldn't have been possible to have drained the 2 litres of water from the bleed valve when the lockshield was shut but the TRV 'open'. In fact, the water from the bleed valve flowed with slighter...

    I'm 90% sure this is the TRV - http://www.crystalheating.co.uk/components/2.Drayton%20trv.jpg

From memory I'm sure the bottom of the TRV is white/cream plastic with a cross design - almost like your looking head on at a large phillips screwdriver. Nevertheless, I never thought to leave the TRV off to see if the rad heats up. The more I think about it, the more I hope this will solve it...

I honestly haven't tried that yet - seems such a simple test doesn't it! Lol Think the TRV is a honeywell one, it's not the brand you mention I don't think. Will try what you suggested when I get home. If that fixes it, there may be a resultant head-imprint in the nearest wall!!! :P

Sorry, should have mentioned that I've checked the TRV pin and it's free moving. The feeder pipes are plastic and do not get hot, but the wall behind the rad is warm, presumably this is where it connects to the main system. The rad is in one corner of the house, so I thought it was a...

    That old chestnut

Hi All, I've got an upstairs radiator in my house that won't heat up. In an effort to sort the issue, I've tried all of the following, but none have resulted in the radiator getting hot: - I've bled all of the radiators in the house to expel any air, especially in the cold rad - this rad...

    Central Heating/ Hot Water Issues

Hi, Thanks for the reply. I'm not aware of any identifying markings on it, but will check when I get home. Would anything to do with this explain the noise on the pump start up?

    Central Heating/ Hot Water Issues

Lol, I'll photo the phallic thing and the whole set up when I get home later. I try to use the pump on the slowest setting as this produces the quietest 'bang', but since the weekend, when the HW valve only is open and the pump is on the slowest speed, there is an awful grinding noise from...

    Central Heating/ Hot Water Issues

Hi Tony, Thanks for the reply. The pump is in the right direction (I believe), but will double check tonight. There are three 'spurs' from the pump outlet, one which goes to the CH motorised valve, one with goes to the HW motorised valve, and one which disappears into the floor after...

    Central Heating/ Hot Water Issues

Hi, and thanks for your reply. Initially I discovered that the motorised valves were wired incorrectly, and that the pump was coming on before they had opened (this was done I think by the original builders, who also put the limefighter after the PRV on the hot water feed!). I have fixed...

    Central Heating/ Hot Water Issues

Hi All, First post here and I'm hoping for some assistance to quell my worries and let me have a good night sleep. Before I start, I would state that I'm neither a plumber nor a plumbing expert, but I do my research where I can so I understand issues. I have a pressurised heating...
