I've not resolved it yet, but I am armed with some printed out wiring diagrams a torch and my multimeter and planning to have a look this coming weekend when I visit the property. I will report back early next week.

Thanks very much that schematic is what I needed. as it was working previously (before th black wire became disconnected), I will try to reinstated this using my trusty multimeter and the diagram. Many thanks
