Don't go for an open fire place. A stove like this is less messy and way more efficient... I installed a stainless steel flexible flue inside the chimney all the way up to the top. But you might not need to do this if you're sure your chimney is sound.

The solid grey pipe appears to run horizontally from here about 6 ft to the outside wall where it connects to the vertical soil pipe.

Waste pipe can be seen to "climb" slightly onto the bottom of the cabinet.
