    Thanks all for your replies. Update - within 24 hours of calling, SGN have promptly sent the contractor back and they have wrapped the exposed pipe in a plastic sleeve and the valve in a silicone type purpose made cover. The only bit now exposed is the old elbow at the bottom of the floor...

    Sorry I wasn’t clear.. the original supply pipe is metallic/steel. however the length of it running under the house looks to be steel coated in yellow plastic. That is all the old supply. SGN have since fed a new plastic PE pipe into this steel/steel coated pipe.

    Apologies my typo.. MET to supply pipe is 0.0012 Megaohms. I was expecting it to be higher as from what I can see the pipe looks to be steel covered in a thick yellow plastic coating for its length under the house until it elbows and comes up. Of course I can't see what happens on the other...

    Thanks all, I'm inclined to agree. My concern is while it is only 20cm of pipe, it is unfortunately very accessible at entrance to a small cupboard where one would likely have a leg or foot in contact with the pipe whilst touching the metal CU on the opposite wall. And as you, with a lost...

    Evening, SGN have replaced the street's gas pipes by feeding a new PE plastic one in through the existing steel pipe. The meter is in cupboard under the stairs. TNCS earthing. SGN have fitted a new 'electrically insulated' head just before the meter. I have tested and there is no continuity...

    Aha thank you for your concern :lol: Yep, I pulled the fuse out and the wire was completely disintergrated. Luckily I found some old matching fuse wire nearby and rewired the fuse without having to go to the shops.. I now have light again!! ..but if only I had MCBs :cry:

    Thanks for the reply.. yep being the idiot I am I must have been thinking of the ring mains which only has one fuse. I opened the box and there were two fuses :oops: Just changing the wire now.. fingers crossed!
