out the top of what? the MCB or the RCD? RCD I'm really confused as to what you've connected to what. You have your RCD in between the live connections for the lighting and the sockets?? The sockets are on the rcd side not the lights. Did you connect the appropriate neutral connections...

Mark, Sometimes these gaps are left intentionally as the floor will with out doubt expand and these gaps will close up. Are the gaps on every board or about every meter?
