    "am i mising a more serious problem here ?" Yeah, tighten up the connections, go for a walk and re-tighten the connections again! copper wire is mallable. You'll now have to cut back the burnt ends or it could happen again.

    There are companies on the net that can supply screens & doors any size 'made to measure' Depending on the excess he might be able to make a claim against his building insurance.

    Run a small bead of clear silicone between the frame and the door to stop the movement, a small dollop will also secure the caps.
