    Klikstak, any thoughts on it?

I searched the forum (and the internet in general) for discussions about this system, but came up with very little. On the face of it it seems like a good option, not only is the hire potentially cheaper with rates very reasonable (£200/week) but it looks like it'll do less damage to my tiles...

    UPVC replacement sealed unit

I got my replacement sealed unit today, and it's got tape round the edges. I googled if I'm supposed to remove it before fitting and the answer was 'yes', and I started doing that, but it's pulling bits of the spacer bar rubber with it, so it looks like I need to cut it off and it looks like...

    Wiser Home replacement valve

It's interesting that you find the head is less reliable than the valve. I'd expect it to be the other way round. I guess if I sell the house and take the Wiser system with me I could put the thermostatic valves back on, so there's that.

    Wiser Home replacement valve

Hi everyone, I have a faulty rad valve, seems to be very slowly leaking. It was originally a TRV4, and I just discarded the original themostatic top and put the smart thermostat on top of it, and obviously I could do the same again, just wondering what's the go-to replacement that plumbers...

    Grohe Concetto Bathroom Mixer tap

I think it depends how messy you are, if there's lots of splashes into that area it may drip through. Depends what's below. Eventually I used the smaller ring, and added silicon sealant. Mainly because tightening the nut kept pushing it over to the left. So I put silicon, then the ring, then...

    Grohe Concetto Bathroom Mixer tap

I bought a couple of taps a few years back: Grohe 32629 001 Concetto Basin Mixer High Spout PUW I wanted to get the same again, but that seems to have been discontinued. I managed to find a similar tap with slightly different model number...

Clamps for temporary fencing.... without gaps.

Yes, this is what I do, I don't think I explained it very well though. It is hampered by the fact that I applied an extra layer of chicken wire over the panels, and those clamps have to be sort-of threaded through it to do the jackknife thing.

Scaffold tower middle brace - what part to connect?

The Boss thing is a brace, not a transom and it won't support anything much because it's aluminium, and designed to keep elements a certain distance apart rather than take any transverse weight. I'm sure you all knew that but I thought I should just point it out. The key thing here, is that...

Clamps for temporary fencing.... without gaps.

Lots of places sell temporary fencing in 3.5m lengths, with 2m height. I've noticed the clamps leave a gap though, so if you want an enclosure for small pets it's necessary to resort to so-called kennel clamps, but these are expensive. Example, normal clamps with gap, are peanuts and available...

    Drayton Wiser central heating

Hi, I'm not saying you're wrong, but would be interested to know which batteries, which discharge curve you're using to estimate this, which voltage was measured, what battery make and so on because I didn't get a figure of 20% when I last calculated it, much closer to 50. Thanks.

Keeping home cool, what options are there?

I don't think it's the same. A DPC at about 10cm height is to prevent scatter off the ground hitting the bricks and causing issues inside the house. So designers/BC seem to believe it's a different case to rain falling vertically (even with the odd gust of wind), and needs mitigation. If...

Keeping home cool, what options are there?

There is not really any proof either way. But if I'm facing another 36+ degree heatwave in a house not designed for these kinds of temperatures then I'm going to do everything I can to stay cool. Each to their own. Not a good idea due to the potential for efflorescence. Using something that...

Keeping home cool, what options are there?

The sheets evaporate, so the air around them will cool. So the house is then encased in a pocket of air that is cooler than the temperature the exterior of the bricks would otherwise be, thereby cooling the house. How much of a difference it makes, and whether it's worth the effort is of...

Keeping home cool, what options are there?

I like the idea Stephen. Turn your house into a kind of Zeer pot.

    Drayton Wiser central heating

Having had this system for a couple of years now it's OK, but the alkaline batteries for the rad valve units are indicated as in need of replacing when only about half the capacity is gone. So it generates large amounts of half-used batteries and I don't have enough other devices (e.g. torches)...

Keeping home cool, what options are there?

Put this stuff up on all windows (outside if possible): https://www.amazon.co.uk/fowong-Reflective-Insulation-1-5m-2-5m/dp/B0C624SNK8 I didn't get organised with this in the last serious heatwave, so instead I put up ropes outside over the windows which get significant sun and hung up old...

    Non-Makita pruners?

Never owned XGT kit, but I suspect the chance of them being physically identical to LXT would be zero, based on the ensuing problems if you cross-connected them.

    Non-Makita pruners?

Indeed, there are various ones cropping up on aliexpress for instance https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005007014616321.html However none on Banggood, which I consider a slightly up-market version of Ali. The quality looks a bit dubious. I'd expect a more substantial grommet arrangement on the...

    Non-Makita pruners?

Probably a little early to tell, but hit the leylandii in a big way today. 3-400 cuts from 5mm up to about 30mm. It takes a few goes to get through the big branches, if you keep pulling the trigger repeatedly it often gets through. The thing heated up a bit but not much. I followed the...
