Is Dulux Trade paint total rubbish?

Hi Opps, Most of the time I use LG intellimatt for emulsion, Crown is my 'budget' recommendation. Sikkens BL Satura for satin on trim, Dulux QD u/c and gloss but you have to do two coats of gloss. Benjamin Moore eggshell (hybrid) is supposed to be very good but I haven't used it, have to say...

Is Dulux Trade paint total rubbish?

I can't find a link but I use disposable paint filters, they fit round and into your kettle and filter all the carp out. Really does make a difference to finishes, i hate seeing walls and woodwork full of nibs. Oh and btw Dulux emulsion is pretty horrible, dries too fast and marks really easy...

    Check a redecoration quote please

Agree with Boss white, prices do seem high but if you're in London its not surprising, they may be a top notch firm that gives an excellent job for the money and you also don't give any dimensions. The quote should state what materials are included and indeed what paint manufacturers they use...

HELP? Dark paint that doesn't mark?

Most of the standard matt emulsions mark to easy these days. The crown clean extreme would be a better bet. Benjamin Moore eggshell is supposed to be excellent or go for a satin in the form of Sikkens BL satura. I agree with Nige, silk on the walls is horrible and will show every lump and bump.

    New paint stinks! Please HELP.

Pursue B&Q for your money back and the cost to put it right. You can't really remove the paint. I would put a coat or two of zinsser coverstain as it blocks smells, they recommend it over smoke damage so i'm sure it would work in your situation.

Water based or Oil based paint: why so little info?

There is a ton of information on this forum about OB and WB. Problem is as the site doesn't allow stickies so the regulars get fed up with repeating themselves. It's the main reason why i don't come on much anymore. Generally water based or alkyd hybrid will be labelled quick drying. For me OB...

Heatgun stripping lead paint + Air purifier?

Surely it's easier to just replace the skirting and picture rail?

Corner joints of architrave and skirting

If the gaps are only 2-3mm then caulk, over that filler. I've used powder based fillers which are easy to sand many times on woodwork and never had a problem, so a wood filler isn't absolutely necessary.

    Substandard decorating job

It doesn't sound unreasonable. There's lots of variables that could be applied such as price charged, lowest quote perhaps?, bloke from the pub did it? However, to answer your question a) Unless you live in a palace a half height bathroom wall area is small enough to skim fill alleviating the...

    One For The Regulars

I note that Mr H's doors look like the 'eggbox' style. I've found most alkyd hybrids go over these type of doors quite successfully. I find the challenge comes more from flush doors or smooth finish doors. The dulux u/c is pretty damn good and the gloss is pretty good as well now. It's taken...

    wallpaper paste...disposal query

Don't leave it in the bucket, it absolutely stinks to high heaven. Pour into a bin bag and chuck it in your wheelie bin. Bucket can be washed out with warm water.

Water based satin - what am I doing wrong

The coverstain acts as a bridging coat between oil and water based coatings. It works well, your symptoms are adhesion problems, the coverstain will sort this as long as you rub back the loose and flaking paint.

What Painting and Decorating qualifications do I need?

Yeah but how does she know quality? - and that's the problem i see time and time again. Mr diyer turned pro thinks he's done a great job until a decent apprentice/buddy system or city and guilds trained dec shows him/her up. The college system does not guarantee turning out good painters but...

Best way to change from black to white paint

30 coats ! I'd hit it with a mid grey undercoat first, then white u/c then 1 or two top coats. Obliteration of the paint you use is going to be the key factor, and generally the cheaper the paint the worse it is. I did a black ceiling with three coats of Johnstones covaplus for example because...

    Paint splitting despite mist layer
