    Cold water pressure drop

Thanks both; you seem to have hit the nail on the head. I thought the stopcock was fully open but a more determined effort found that I had just hit a stiff spot in the thread. It has opened another couple of turns. I have fully opened it (to a definite stop) and then backed off half a turn...

    Cold water pressure drop

I have an issue with pressure drop and am asking if this forum can shed any light. I have lived in this house since it was built in 1997. On the ground floor, I have kitchen, utility room and cloakroom (with toilet and wash basin). The utility room with sink and washing machine was...

    Random loss of TV signal

Thanks Harry. I agree that its unlikely; just a suggestion. We are clutching at straws here! I think I am going to have to do that. Unfortunately that the other digital TV is on a wall mount and the one in question is on a trolley - and both big and heavy. However, needs must. I still think...

    Random loss of TV signal

So the saga continues and my Sony TV is still blinking away randomly. I have had another TV/aerial 'specialist' in who plugs in his meter and pronounces no fault - which I knew anyway. What I need is someone able to record signal input over time, demonstrate it and perhaps start to identify...

    Removing an external fan grill

Thanks all for quick responses. Sorry about the ‘dot’, it was normal size when I loaded it. Yes, it’s a stock picture but it is exactly the one I have, installed horizontally on the soffit board. I thought there might be a trick to releasing the grill section but if there’s no magic, I will...

    Removing an external fan grill

I've got one of these (see pic) as the external grill on a utility room extract fan. It looks like my local wasps have made a home behind it. But I can't get this grill off and I am scared of breaking it. I have removed the two woodscrews at the bottom which seems to release the opposite edge...

    Random loss of TV signal

Thanks all for comments about picture quality/ weak channels etc. The annoying thing is that outside the random blinks, the picture and sound are pin point perfect! As I would expect from the latest offering from Sony.

    Random loss of TV signal

Appreciate (now) that RG6 isn’t great but unfortunately it’s what is commonly available from even electrical wholesalers like TLC. Your boiler start up scenario is exactly as I imagined but the fault occurs when the boiler is switched off, a.ong with all other internal sources of interference...

    Random loss of TV signal

Apologies, RG6. I appreciate WF100 would better but have only recently found out there are so many grades of coax cable. This is quite a journey!

    Random loss of TV signal

Good point. I believe it is RG5 (copper coated steel core/'foam' insulation/aluminium foil & braided copper screen) but TLC don't provide a spec for this product. Regarding noise interference, yes I think this is the problem, See post #40 above. Question is, what? I have eliminated...

    Random loss of TV signal

But I do know it’s condition as I only put it in recently, 10m of brand new coax from TLC. The loss/interference is exactly the same as the original 20 year old cable which had two male/female plug joints in it. The only bit of original cable is from the roof aerial to the splitter input and...

    Random loss of TV signal

Yes I had, but the point is that the aerial/splitter/cable system works perfectly 99% of the time for the new TV and 100% of the time for my 4 other TV’s, one of which is also Sony digital but older. Something is interrupting or interfering with the signal and affects only this one TV set...

    Random loss of TV signal

In effect, this is what I have already done, except it is from the splitter output to the TV wall socket. This is a single length of coax, no joints. I will try connecting this direct to the aerial output lead, bypassing the splitter, and see what happens.

    Random loss of TV signal

Thanks for this. It’s also my suspicion that these current Sony sets are more sensitive to signal quality or external interference. This is compounded by, as I have mentioned earlier in this thread, that another, older, Sony digital set is entirely unaffected. I tried to get some information...

Now it works, now it doesn't

Many thanks for responses. The consensus seems to be that, as I suspected, the PSU has cut out and taken time to reset. The lamps in question are my last remaining MR16 halogens, simply because they have never given any trouble. I note I can get MR16 LEDs so three new lamps and a suitable...

Now it works, now it doesn't

I have 3 x MR16 12v downlights installed in a pelmet over a worktop/chests of drawers in a bedroom. They are wired to a 2 gang dimmer switch; the other dimmer works the central ceiling light. They were professionally installed >10 years ago as part of a bedroom refit. They have worked...

    Random loss of TV signal

Rodders53, thanks again. The interruptions are down to one/night, a pair of blips, 10-20s apart. The form of the interruption is so regular (only random factor is timing, anything from soon after switch on (around 10pm) to after midnight, that I feel it must be some form of electrical...

    Random loss of TV signal

Thanks for that. I follow the logic but as you suggest, might be rather expensive! Probably similar cost to getting a tech out to fix it, with a new aerial if necessary. But see next reply.

    Random loss of TV signal

A further update. When the filter didn't work, Restore TV sent out a technician who quickly confirmed that mobile network interference was not the issue. However he kindly did some further testing and identified a 20dB signal drop between the splitter output and the wall socket in the TV room...

    Random loss of TV signal

An update and some success. BBC Reception Advice thought mobile network interference unlikely as no other complaints from my post code but suggested contacting Restore TV. Restore TV, on the basis of a questionnaire they sent me, thought it could be mobile network interference and sent me a...
