What did the guy do to decide there was a blockage on the return? The fact that it is not fireing and you have no hot water sugests to me that that is not the case.

Intergas boilers, have a great heat exchanger (22mm heating 12mm hot water) so the chance of it getting clogged up is low (intergas claim they have never had a problem with one of there heat exchangers and give a 10 year gaurentee for them) however if ihibitor is fitted you shoildn't get sludge...

If you have water coming out i'd say the diaphram had split so it will need replacing.
