    Christmas Lights

Err no is the answer, can you not see the bit which says output = 4.5v dc?

    Consumer unit query

how big is this cu? i'd bet the 4 cores are twisted into their respective circuit pairs, as cu wasn't big enough and someone has moved 1 ring into another's mcb to free a space, probably for the obsolete shower.

New froststat clicking/lighting up but no response from boiler

you have connected the switch live to term 3 haven't you? where was the earth core connected to on the honeywell?

    2 consumer units 1 ring

Thats wrong and cannot be done, should only have 1x cu with the genny plugging into the 16a shore power socket, and 10a radials for the sockets. The max power is only 16a, less in eu countries so a ring would be pointless the changeover switch should be wired before the cu with the shore/genny...

Smart meters, electric vehicle charging points and Economy 7

you have a switched supply and a permanent supply, see the switch at lower right, left side is permanent and right side of switch is switched via the black box above, with both cu neutrals joined together in the left henley block

Use Second fused spur or single

That rcd spur cannot be fitted on a non rcd protected circuit anyway, so don't bother changing

Ceiling rose still live after switching off circuit

The pictures show the pendants connected reverse polarity, the brown should go to the single red not the 2x black conductors

Does armoured cable to Garage need to be buried?

As posted, should look something like this when done correctly! Tails split using henley blocks, then a switchfuse or 1way cu installed with the swa correctly terminated using the correct glands. Note - Pic for illustration only!!

Does armoured cable to Garage need to be buried?

How is this electrician proposing to fuse down the swa, given you wrote " splitting the heavy supply cable to Consumer Unit"? is there room for a switchfuse in the meter cupboard? Hope he wasn't expecting to just join it directly to the cu tails.

    BT Landline VOIP

To answer your question, yes you can. Disconnect the pair from the incoming dropwire/lead-in from the back of the nte, then simply use a bt431a to bt431a lead to connect from your smarthub2 to any of your extensions or the nte and away you go.

CPC Continuity through Metal Clad box

The back box has 2 fixed lugs so I thought that was sufficient for the faceplate? if you take the plate off for testing then you will lose your earth on the outgoing side/swa, as your relying on the faceplate screws, the incoming earth should go to the faceplate and a link to the back box

CPC Continuity through Metal Clad box

The cpc is there for safety and is not allowed to be switched. ideally it also wants a link from the backbox to the faceplate as well.

perhaps if you read the rest of the rule, it also states the following :- However it is permissible to leave the engine running if the vehicle is stationary in traffic or for diagnosing faults.

    2 way switching cowboy method

The red, black and earth is your live and switch live which comes from the light joint in the ceiling. The red, yellow blue is your link cable between the 2 switches, and is needed to make it work 2 way. There is no way, without a dangerous bodge, of making it work properly again, without...

Isolator switch located directly below shower pump

Absolutely nothing wrong with that, not stupid or dangerous, is the circuit rcd/rcbo protected? It's only the same as an immersion heater or electric shower, and would be more concerned about the quality of the pump/plumbing if it keeps leaking

Add RCD to Shed supply and update

That is not true and is niceic wishful thinking, in fact there is no mention of srcd's in the dpc of amendment 2 As an aside, this is the position of srcd's So what does BS 7288 say? The residual current device at socket-outlet level is normally intended to be installed by skilled or...

Add RCD to Shed supply and update

if you want to improve the circuit and fit an outside socket, then i would recommend terminating the incoming cable from the fuse spur into a metal enclosure fitted with a 16amp rcbo, then from there a cable to your sockets and spur for lighting.

Add RCD to Shed supply and update

If you removed all the original wiring and replaced with new, then of course its a new circuit as there wouldn't of been a circuit there, as you removed it!! Once again, replacing the wiring makes it a new circuit so will require rcd protection. Just bite the bullet and either get an rcbo...

Add RCD to Shed supply and update

Except bs7288 explicitly says that rcd spurs cannot be fitted to a circuit which does not already have additional protection already fitted, ie they cannot be fitted unless the circuit is already rcd/rcbo protected. it isn't an improvement fitting an rcd spur standalone as they do not offer...

    Summerhouse/Outbuilding wiring thoughts?

From January 2019, BS 7288 is NOT listed in BS 7671:2018 Appendix 1 This is down to their product standard not stating they are suitable for additional protection, and requiring an upstream 30mA RCD to provide this function, if a device to BS 7288 does not provide additional protection then it...
