    Cracking caulk as I paint

I'd left some of it over it, and some of it for a couple days so should have been dry.

    Cracking caulk as I paint

Rather wish I had used filler. Zinsser looks like a great product. But not sure where I'll find it open this weekend. Would a regular wood and metal undercoat be any good? Thanks.

    Cracking caulk as I paint

Ah! Thanks, It was the more expensive of the two in the shop. I also have some sdm caulk from Leylands. Do you happen to know if it's any better? Can I just put better caulk on top or does it need to be removed? Thanks, Charles

    Cracking caulk as I paint

Thanks, it's the paint on the caulk that has cracked rather than the join between the caulk and the wall.

    Cracking caulk as I paint

We're painting a newly plastered room. The corners were a bit rough to I used caulk to smooth them out but the caulk seems to be cracking. I've painted with two coats of dulux trade supermatt emulsion. Cracks come back very quickly and are confined to the caulk. Any idease great fully...

    Expansion joints

Hi, We're in the middle of laying some reclaimed pine boards. They have been in the house a few weeks and seem very dry. The room is 12m aprox x 4m (3m for approx half of that). Stupidly we're laying the boards across the room. We have left 15mm expansion joints arround the edge, but should...

    Flooring Advice Needed

Thank you! Great simple answer! Should we perhaps buff the floor when we peel off the protection before the oil? I do have fears about the smells so we've gone for a bit of a beast of an extractor hood venting through the roof. May have to stick to barbecuing fish!

    Flooring Advice Needed

Hi, Afraid I’m asking for some advice again. Our builders are coming close to finishing our kitchen extension and we have scheduled to lay the floor before they install the kitchen. We are putting down reclaimed pine boards (nailed with brads into batons on the concrete floor) for the whole...

    Toughening up reclaimed pine flooring

Hi, Hope you can help. We stripped back the floors upstairs and coated them with a hard wax oil. It looks great, and the colour is developing nicely, but it dents and scratches easily. We're now working on downstairs and have ordered some reclaimed pine to match, but wonder if it is...

Chimney Breasts Removal - Two Very Different Quotes!

Thanks for the advice, the issue is that we don't want to spend the money on the SE if we're likely to find out that the project is now too expensive. After talking to what seems like a friendly SE today I think the most likely option will be mounting two steels the full width of the house...

Chimney Breasts Removal - Two Very Different Quotes!

We're also in a terraced house in Lambeth. We want to take out our rear chimney breast (upstairs and down). We had a quote we were happy with to remove it (£3k including making good), but it turns out he was planning on using gallows brackets, and Lambeth have ruled these out. We now need...

Cables, new insulation and fire risk??

Thank you. This is probably a daft question, but how do I tell what size cables I have? Is it the thickness of the metal core that I should worry about, or the cores pluss the insulation? Charles

Cables, new insulation and fire risk??

Hi, We’ve got fed up with how easily noise travels between the ground and first floor of our little house so we’ve decided to combine stripping the boards with installing some insulation under them. We’ve gone for rockwool flexi slab...
