    Another diversity consequence

I'm tempted to express surprise that your brother is allowed by his managers to pursue such people, and not told quietly to "lay off" in order to benefit the "bigger picture" of diversity and inclusion. Bigger even, perhaps, than the protection of old folks from lawless and scruple-free ripoff...

    Another diversity consequence

The user name is a jocular reference to my once-chaotic approach to DIY. Whatever alternative connotations you might infer are entirely of your own making.

    Another diversity consequence

The tedious talking heads of the diversity industry ( and "industry" it is, because their very livelihoods depend on the gigantic lie that the UK is a racist country ) try to convince us that there's something noble about such folk: that their very existence is a culturally precious addition to...

Correct inserts for plastic to copper?

I also came across that advice, so I used the copper olives that came with the compression fitting.

    Another diversity consequence

We used to live close to the site of the annual Wirral Show, and one year the “travelling people” who worked on the rides decided to stay behind for a couple of weeks after the show had finished. They wrecked a local beauty spot by racing cars up and down the hills, left mountains of rubbish on...

Correct inserts for plastic to copper?

Thanks for that response. I’ve already used the compression fittings direct to plastic, and I’ll be checking the joint on Monday. If it’s leaking I’ll nip up the nut, if it leaks again after that I may reconsider.

Correct inserts for plastic to copper?

My daughter had a look at the old plastic pipe, and the only word she could make out was “Polska”. Other than in Warsaw or Krakow, does that ring any bells?

Correct inserts for plastic to copper?

Worth adding that we had a bad experience with plastic pipe a few years back. We bought a large Victorian house in 1996, and the Aqualisa thermostatic shower had been plumbed in by the previous owner using plastic pipe and fittings which were boxed in and tiled over. One day the cold feed blew...

Correct inserts for plastic to copper?

Thanks for that. I’ll ask my daughter to have a look on the discarded pieces of plastic pipe for a manufacturer’s mark. As said above, it’s pretty old stuff and I dont think it’s either of the major brands usually mentioned on these forums. If it is a discontinued brand, then I’m really not sure...

Correct inserts for plastic to copper?

The plastic pipe was joined to the existing copper isolators for the old tap and washing machine valve by plastic couplings of a similar vintage. Because of the age of those couplings and the likely faff of disassembling them, I thought it best to discard and start from scratch.

Correct inserts for plastic to copper?

Thanks for that. As I said above, I’ve no idea what brand the pipe is (looks like it’s been there for many years) so I wasn’t able to match the inserts. But the ones I used were a pretty snug fit.

Correct inserts for plastic to copper?

Evening all Had occasion today to join old plastic supply pipes to new copper ones. After taking a butcher's at YouTube I decided to put metal inserts in the plastic pipe (which looks ancient, and I've no idea what brand it is) and connect the plastic to the copper pipes with brass compression...

Need to identify connections under sink...

I’ll be working just a few feet away from a very full biscuit tin, and I have permission to empty it. Which is reward enough for me :0)

Need to identify connections under sink...

To be honest (and I think the photos make this obvious) the current spaghetti junction of pipe and valves needs sorting in order to improve access and make the pipework easier to work on in future, should the need arise. But thanks anyhow for sharing your thoughts.

Need to identify connections under sink...

Thanks both. I’ve already got the tap tail adaptors, but if I leave the pipework as is, where do I connect them when the isolators are below the garden tap and WM connections?

Can't open that link, I'm afraid.

Need to identify connections under sink...

My current intention is to cut out the existing isolation valves along with the connections to the washing machine and the garden tap and the pipework above, then install new inline compression valves for the WM and garden tap below, with new, flat faced isolation valves above to take the...

Need to identify connections under sink...

Will do, cheers. The wildlife in that corner of the kitchen cupboard won’t be happy about the oily smell, but sod em. I’ve also bought a key for use on the old fashioned outdoor stopcock in the pavement.

Need to identify connections under sink...

Couple of options to guard against that eventuality: a stopcock which is also under the sink, probably hasn’t been touched since Noah was a lad and will probably leak if interfered with, or the spindle out in the street. Either or both are likely to work.
