how paranoid should I be about this stuff

cheers for the comments. There is some actual asbestos-cement flue pipe up there that I'm summoning up the courage to rip (carefully) out, and there were a couple of broken bits lying around, plus a large and a small asbestos cement water tank. Add in the manky spider webs, mouse droppings etc...

how paranoid should I be about this stuff

Ah the joys of trying to sort loft insulation, deal with the deadly dripping, etc etc. Don't you love December. And why do I start all DIY jobs at 16.30 on a Sunday? So probably just manky old rockwool? Can anyone tell from the pic? One pic is a closeup, with water drops. The wider pic has new...

Isolate vibration from bathroom extractor sited in loft

It's sitting on the insulation at the moment and pretty much silent.

Isolate vibration from bathroom extractor sited in loft

Maybe I've over thought the problem - just screw it to a thin sheet of ply and rest it on top of the insulation. Silent runnings...

Isolate vibration from bathroom extractor sited in loft

Heh, after writing this I sketched a little contraption with bunjees cords, oh well, Heath Robinson it is then. Could be a Dragons Den product idea in here somewhere

Isolate vibration from bathroom extractor sited in loft

As per the title. There's an extractor fan in the loft above the bathroom. At the moment it is vibration isolated using a Heath Robinson solution with it screwed down to a board with foam glued in a sandwich with a lower board which is screwed to a rafter. The only solid thing to attach it to is...

Filters - Patern parts or genuine from manufacturer

Yeah the Peugeot DV6 engine is fitted to several cars inc BMW Mini, Ford Focus etc, and the issues are well-known. Perhaps models with the DPF are more prone to problems, also leaking injectors have been suggested as a cause. When shopping for mine (08 year) I made sure I got a Euro III vehicle...

Filters - Patern parts or genuine from manufacturer

I recently got an oil filter for my Ford tdci (simple paper element type with o ring) off eBay for £3. Its Fujitoyo brand, "original equipment quality". The packaging claims improved performance and better acceleration, which set the alarm bells ringing. So I was in my local Ford dealer buying a...

    mira sport price

well the happy end to this story is at the moment B&Q have an extra 15% off all bathroom stuff if you spend over £200, so got a Mira Azora -the insides are a Sport Thermostatic with a fancy glass panel- for £230 which is less than a bog standard Mira Sport without thermostatic control. Result.

well Ive got a multimeter but Im no electrician and wouldnt know where to start with fault finding. I thought it might just be the heater unit but as they're £90ish I thought may as well just bung a new one on. But yeah Id rather repair than replace, its very wasteful.

    Silverline Tools?

I got a set of silverline 1/4" socket extension bars. They're so poorly made the socket gets totally stuck on the end, you have to lever it off with a screwdriver and risk damaging the socket and injuring yourself. That was enough for me to mistrust the entire brand. If you shop around you...

ta for the reply. well the last one only lasted 5 years of moderate use (no idea what it cost originally) but I guess to judge a make by one poor unit would be stupid.

    mira sport price

I've got a Mira sport shower that is no longer heating so need to replace. Simple electric showers tend to cost from around £70 - £150 retail. Mira Sports are around £240 - £270 depending on spec... anyone know why they're quite a bit more and are they worth it?[/list][/wiki]

    leaving a shower switched "on"

oof. Thanks for the replies guys, I guess its just given up the ghost then. It must be about 6 years old now, nothing lasts these days!

    leaving a shower switched "on"

So, electric showers have pull-cord switches as well as their own on/off arrangement. Does it harm a shower to leave the pull-cord in the on position? Our shower seems to be dying, as in not heating the water, and we tend to leave the pull-cord on, but are the 2 related?

    Warning light

A fault code doesn't necessarily indicate a sensor fault, hence the need for further diagnosis. Perhaps its acceptable for you to replace sensors that aren't actually malfunctioning, but if you took your car to a garage and they started chucking things away that worked and charging you for new...
