how paranoid should I be about this stuff

Ah the joys of trying to sort loft insulation, deal with the deadly dripping, etc etc. Don't you love December. And why do I start all DIY jobs at 16.30 on a Sunday? So probably just manky old rockwool? Can anyone tell from the pic? One pic is a closeup, with water drops. The wider pic has new...

Isolate vibration from bathroom extractor sited in loft

As per the title. There's an extractor fan in the loft above the bathroom. At the moment it is vibration isolated using a Heath Robinson solution with it screwed down to a board with foam glued in a sandwich with a lower board which is screwed to a rafter. The only solid thing to attach it to is...

    mira sport price

I've got a Mira sport shower that is no longer heating so need to replace. Simple electric showers tend to cost from around £70 - £150 retail. Mira Sports are around £240 - £270 depending on spec... anyone know why they're quite a bit more and are they worth it?[/list][/wiki]

    leaving a shower switched "on"

So, electric showers have pull-cord switches as well as their own on/off arrangement. Does it harm a shower to leave the pull-cord in the on position? Our shower seems to be dying, as in not heating the water, and we tend to leave the pull-cord on, but are the 2 related?

Pads and discs, makes and sources...

Need to do pads and discs all round on my Focus soon, there seems to be a fairly wide selection of makes and prices. If I bought all Pagid stuff from ECP it'd cost around £150 with their current 30% discount code. Are there other makes/suppliers who offer better value? Any makes to avoid?

    Damp problem

Just noticed the corner of an upstairs bedroom is dripping wet. Black mould is forming above and below on the skirting. Its a 1930's semi, no insulation in walls, so I'm guessing its the temperature differential between room and exterior of wall that's causing it. There is a vent on the wall...

    tips on glazing a greenhouse

I'm putting up a B&Q aluminium + glass greenhouse, have got to the glazing stage and am finding it a bit intimidating. I've figured how the spring clips go in the frame but they're pretty tight and i'm kinda scared to exert too much force on the glass in case it shatters. I titted around for 15...

    Priming an oil filter

I used to fill a new filter with oil before fitting to ensure oil flow would start as fast as possible after an oil change to prevent wear, but I don't bother these days. Was I wasting time doing this or is it worthwhile?

Options for boxing in a bath

The guy who tiled our bathroom and fitted the bath made a cock-up - the bath was fitted too low, so the plastic side and end panels won't fit. I've considered shaving a bit off the bottom of the panels but I'd have to take too much off and it would look a mess. So short of ripping all the tiles...
